I had contemplated getting a UPS for quite some time but never did. So, I was very happy to have an opportunity try this product out. If you are looking for a reasonably priced APS/surge protestor for home or small office this is a nice option and would recommend. Easy setup – just unbox, insert battery connector on the bottom of the unit, plug in and turn on Angled and flat 5-foot power cord. Is somewhat compact at 5.5 inches high x 10.8 inches width x 4.1 inches deep and is a tad over 7 lbs. 5 UPS/Surge and 2 surge power outlets and 1 5V 2.1A USB connector. 2 of the UPS outlets are staggered/separated to allow pugging in larger power blocks. Rated at 650AV and 360W and energy star certified The power button flashes different colors/frequencies and there are audible alarms indicating unit status. Has 3 Voltage sensitivity adjustments. Can be mounted on the wall 3-year warranty on unit and battery (which will need to be replaced every few years and looks to cost around $45). $75,000 lifetime connected equipment protection policy and free technical support. To test I unplugged unit simulating a power outage and it seamlessly went to battery power every time. Test 1 – Received 20 minutes of power before battery was exhausted having my desktop (no added GPU) with multiple hard drives, modem, router and 35-inch monitor plugged in. While this certainly is enough time to save any work, it won’t let you while away the time watching content or surfing the internet until the power comes back on. Test 2 – Received 2 hrs. and 33 minutes of power before battery was exhausted having only modem and router connected. Negatives. No display of battery charge left or charging percentage. Very long (states up to 10 hours) to recharge the battery. Overall a nice compact UPS that gives you a sense of security if your power should go out. Just be sure whatever is plugged into it is really needed to extend battery power as long as possible.

Had a Cyber Power for a few years that died so I decided to go back to purchasing an APC as I always did like their products in the past. Bought this unit and then find out there's no way to run it with Power Chute software to monitor how the unit is working. Can't do a self test either. This is RIDICULOUS. Probably going to return. WHAT A RIPOFF !

Picked this up, and right out of the box, it was non functional. I plugged in the battery as per instructions, plugged it in to the outlet, and couldn’t get any power, even after charging. It basically would not turn on. Returned and went with another brand, as I feel this company is not making the same product they used to make years ago. Unfortunate

Great addition to add to your electronics

This is a great addition to have for your electronics , wish I would’ve had it 2 weeks ago when we lost power for 18 hrs.! This review is based on a power outage simulation. When I unplugged it the battery kicked in right away, I was able to use an iPad, WiFi, Arlo cameras, router towers & Nest smoke alarms. I had power to all of them for 3 hours. I didn’t use the computer & I could charge my phone with the USB port. My landline phone was plugged in too but it didn’t work with this. It’s a bit taller & wider than a normal power strip but it doesn’t take up much room on the floor. I expected it to run a bit hot but it only gets warm when the battery takes over, stays cool otherwise. There are 2 outlets for just surge protection & 5 outlets for battery & surge with room for transformer plugs. There are three sensitivity settings to adjust for fluctuations in voltage, I only used the lowest. I think this is a great idea because you can at least use or charge your devices during a storm or outage. The only thing I wish it had was more USB ports for charging, only one Is a bit tough.

    Perfect Record During Power Fails

We've pretty much made the switch from desksides to laptops, but still need a wireless router, cable modem, and home automation hub for connectivity. The APC 650VA Battery Backup is the perfect size for protecting them from surges and keeping them running during power fails. It was put to the test during the latest heat wave and fires (located in the Bay Area, California) and performed brilliantly. APC has made it pretty simple; pull the unit out of the box, plug it in, and plug in the devices you want to protect. There are five backup outlets and two surge protected outlets, clearly marked. There is also a USB connector that can be used to recharge phones & other usb devices with 2.1amps. The outlets are inline, which is my one minor complaint; it would be really nice if they were staggered on either side of the unit. But there is extra space between the third, fourth, and fifth outlets, so wall warts fit without taking up two outlets. One note: read the (excellent) manual provided with the unit. The on/off switch is used to program a variety of modes and to silence the (annoying) beep signaling that the unit is on battery power. First test, after an overnight charge, was to simply unplug the unit. The router, cable modem, and Arlo hub all just trudged along like nothing happened, and a short press of the power button silenced the alarm. Second test came a day later when the neighborhood blacked out because a transformer blew due to the load. We were shut down for almost four hours while they fixed the problem. The APC kept the cable modem and router up and running, we were able to stay connected the entire time. Third test came a couple days later when the power company decided to do some unplanned maintenance to correct the problem they patched around earlier. Again, local power went out but we were able to use laptops to access the Internet seamlessly. While the APC won't keep things running for days, it is a great solution for rolling blackouts and short term power disruptions. The addition of a charging port is a great feature as well. This is a no brainer, especially in these times of work at home. Highly recommended!

Thank you for taking the time to review our UPS. I am sorry to hear that you are disappointed in the runtime that is available on the UPS. This is one of our smaller UPSs so the runtime would be reduced if the power draw of the connected equipment is high. The BVN650M1 would support 360 watts of power connected to it. To have around an hour of runtime the load would be around 50 watts which is pretty lower power draw for a computer. We do have extended runtime units available as well that would provide additional runtime. APC

Overall, this is a solid unit for basic computer setups, appropriate transfer of power to home networks, or reliable backup power to a home theater system. I used it to provide backup power to my gaming PC and alternatively to my home theater projector and AV receiver. Design: This is a compact unit that actually looks sleek and does not have the bulky, cheap plastic look as many other commercial backup units due. There are 5 backup ports and an additional 2 ports that offer surgery protection only. The single USB port only puts out 1.5A. Quite disappointing as this is really only enough for a smartphone, but it can be used to power a peripheral if needed. The spacing between each outlet is moderate and can easily get filled up by large transformer plugs. APC probably could have incorporated a better design to deal with this problem. Depending on your situation, it shouldn’t be too hard to utilize all 7 outlets. Features: The audible alarm is the best feature and is easily heard. When I am watching a movie I am able to quickly shut off most of the power demand from the backup unit and allow my projector to enter the appropriate powering off mode. The ability to quickly swap batteries in order to extend the battery backup life or change dead batteries is additionally helpful. I did not utilize that feature yet but I understand how useful that could be. Backup capability: When connected to my gaming PC set up, the unit was able to provide 5 minutes of power to my PC and monitor. When connected to my home theater projector and AV receiver, it lasted 3 minutes if I was able to quickly shut off the AV receiver which drew the most power, and then subsequently power down the projector. I would not recommend this for a home theater set up unless you’re using it for isolated backup power to a home theater projector which requires an appropriate shutdown period. All in all, this is a very good unit that will work for most standard PC set ups. I prefer to use it as the isolated backup for my home theater projector. I will also consider buying an additional unit to provide backup however to my home network components. I would definitely recommend this model if it meets the specs you require.

    APC - Solid Backup Device

I’ve worked in broadcast radio for years, and we need solid power backups to keep our stations on the air during a power surge or failure, usually from storms. This is when our listeners most need us. We depend on bigger, professional APC Backup devices which have never failed us. For this reason, I was happy to have this smaller APC device to keep my home computer, modem and router safe from power spikes and short outages. I’m not disappointed. It has five outlets in the back for both battery backup and power spikes, and two for just surge protection only. (I like the way two of the five backup outlets are spaced farther apart, so that you can plug in bulky wall warts.) Simulating a power failure, I unplugged the device from the wall. My computer and other devices kept on running beautifully. The only indication I had was from the APC. It ‘clicked’ and then the green ring around the power button began flashing twice every two seconds. When I restored power, another click and the green ring stayed on steadily. There’s a red ‘building fault wiring detector’ in the back by the power cord. If it lights, there’s a dangerous power wiring situation in the house which could be a shock hazard. Fortunately, I didn’t have this problem. The only negative I could find with this backup device is that unlike bigger and more expensive APC units, it has no visual display of any kind. A readout would be helpful to give you a constant look at the incoming voltage, the battery’s condition, the load you are putting on the device, a constant display of how much battery time is available, etc. But for the price and portability of this small device, it’s not really a problem. “No display” has nothing to do with the purpose of this unit, keeping your devices safe from surges or small power failures. Overall, for the price, this rugged APC device is a very good buy. Your equipment will thank you.

This is a good power back up device. Recently, our utilities company advised us of a possible outage because of the excessive heat warning. So I had this connected to my work-from-home set up. Two 4K 27 inch monitors, a laptop, a phone charger, plus it was charging two gaming laptops. I tried taking the plug out and for 45 minutes, I had continuous power coming from the back up device. Of course the two gaming laptops were not being used but were still charging-- and my whole workstation was working like everything was plugged in. That gave me peace-of-mind knowing I won't have sudden interruptions if outages happen, especially when I am at meetings while working from home. I also used it for one of my main outlets that get some fluctuations every so often. I discovered that the outlet was faulty. This device has an indicator for faulty wiring, so that's a great to have as well. Also, I have this TV by the dining that we hardly use because we have to pull out a long cord just to power it up. I tried this device there too, without any other source of power but the device itself. I was able to power a 50 inch TV plus a chromecast for 2 hours. So I guess it is not just a good back-up power contingency-- it can be a real source of power where you need it, for a good amount of time. It is reliable and I think every household should have one.
