The APC Back-UPS 650VA unit is another solid product from a trusted source of quality uninterruptible power supplies. This model is effective for smaller computers using <400W power supplies. The UPS comes with a communication cable to allow the unit to talk to the MAC/PC and shutdown the computer safely should a blackout occur. The PowerChute software does a great job of controlling the UPS and also will perform periodic testing of the unit. I am using the UPS on a Synology NAS and it works great. While the PowerChute software doesn't install on the NAS, the NAS does recognized the UPS and communicates with it directly. Overall, a great little UPS from APC. Comes highly recommended if you have a lightweight need.

Compact battery backup, even has USB charging port

I've used APC battery backups for years, as well as other brands. This unit is smaller and sleeker than the usual models, so it will fit under a desk or inside an entertainment center. The unit has 5 battery backup plugs and 2 that are just surge-protected. It has a USB charging port, if you need to charge your phone, tablet or other device, which is very handy. I use these units for computers, my DVRs (so they don't reboot if the power flickers) and I've even used them for my mother-in-law's lift recliner, so she wouldn't get stuck in the chair during a power outage. It's an established technology, hasn't changed much over the years. This unit has a 5-foot power cord and also has notches in the side if you want to mount it somewhere with a couple of screws.

    APC Battery Backup

APC Backup is being used to supply power to modem and cameras. After two months use, power outages have not interrupted modem use. Previously, power outages would turn off the modem and I would have to make a four hour trip to restore the modem.

This came right on time. The main feature that peaked my interest was the ability to keep my internet connection during a power outage. Within 2 days of setting this up I got to test that feature out. It worked perfectly allowing my household to still use our devices while connected to the WiFi. That alone made this a worthy item to have in my opinion.

I live in an area that is prone to storms, hurricanes and power outages. It’s comforting to know I have a piece of equipment that can keep my WiFi powered, charge my laptop, phone or other necessity when I lose power. I wish I had got one years ago!

Excellent item for Tv, router, or things you want to stay on for a power outage. I have a few one for my Main PC, and then the other for our Router, and TV. They work as designed and are fairly inexpensive.

BUYER BEWRARE APC IS CUTTING CORNERS!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I've been purchasing a PC products for close to 30 years for my computer usage, APC APC used to be a solid company making business quality products and selling them to businesses and consumers. I purchased this APC backup in December of last year and had a good experience with it so seeing the Black Friday deal I decided to pick up a couple more units, little did I know how much APC is cutting corners. The model I got no longer has a replaceable battery so you have to throw the entire thing into the landfill and buy a brand new unit from APC which is what they want you to do instead of just buying a replacement battery, there are many economically suppliers of batteries that have better prices than the APC themselves, they are just using industry-standard (SLA) sealed lead acid batteries which are common and easily attainable. The thing that really breaks it for me is the removal of the dataport so you can no longer use the APC software to see the load on your UPS to know if you can add more items or the runtime to see how many minutes you have on back up or once the power goes out how many minutes you have left to run, this is very very valuable data, to save a handful of pennies APC removed the dataport on this particular unit and then to deceive the public, they simply added one letter in the model number, they added it to the middle of the model number instead of changing the model number all together so you are deceived into buying this unit. At this point I'm going to be returning both of these units and I'm not going to buy ABC products anymore, I spent $35 on each of these and the one I purchased in December was only $30 so you now pay more money to get less, they also eliminated that certificate of test receipt that was included with all APC UPS that showed all the passing test for the product, I'm sure the next step is to not even provide you the small manual but a little piece of paper with a URL on it to tell you where you can go download your own user manual, it will probably say something about wanting to go green and saving paper when we all know it's just another way to save money and inconvenience the customer, really disappointing APC you've lost a long-term customer.

Thank you for taking the time to review our UPS. I am sorry to hear that you are disappointed that the UPS does not have an user replaceable battery in it. We moved to that option because usually it is more cost effect to replace the entire unit instead of just the internal battery. Also with a new UPS you would get a 3 year manufactures warranty but with replacing just the internal battery you would only get a 1 year manufactures warranty on the internal battery. You can also take advantage of our TradeUPS program which would provide you with a return label to send back the UPS for recycling. If you are still interested in having a replaceable battery you can could check out the BE600M1 or our BackUPS Pro line. APC

    Not what I expected

I bought this battery backup/surge protector for the power dips in my neighborhood. I tested the ups by tripping the breaker to the outlet where the ups was connected and still lost power. I tried it a couple of times on different days to make sure the battery wad fully charged and got the same result. I had also purchased a CyberPower battery backup and it worked as expected. I think I may have received a faulty unit. Plan on returning it today.

Thank you for taking the time to review our UPS. I am sorry to hear that you ran into issues with our unit. I would check to make sure the connected load is under 360 watts and that the battery is securely plugged in. If it is and it is still powering right off in a power outage I recommend reaching out to an APCbySchneider support team. We offer email and chat services through our support site. After 2 months of having this battery back up plugged in the toxic chemical fumes became unbearable. I would like to return it to Best Buy but I am sure they won't take it back beyond 14 days. Nevertheless, this product is defective and harmful to my health so I will appeal for a refund from the manufacturer.

Simply stated, it does not back up my regular power if/when there is in outage in our home/office. Complete waste of monety in my opinion. Furthermore, I had to detach my HP Laserjet from this box, because it went haywire and would not stop beeping when I tried to run through a print job. Yuk! Garbage!

Thank you for taking the time to review our UPS. I am sorry to hear that you ran into issues with it. Laser printers can tend to pull a bit of power so we do not recommend connecting them directly to the UPS. They should go on a separate outlet if possible. If the unit is still having the issue I would make sure the equipment connected to the UPS is under 360 watts. If the load is under this amount and still having issues I recommend reaching out to an APCbySchneider support team. We offer email and chat services through our support site.
