I caught it on sale, so the price was actually less than the model with a smaller battery. I have one brief power outage when lightning hit nearby. The devices plugged in were fine and did not power cycle.

Best thing next to having a generator, but can’t have one where I live.

Don't rely on the power company to protect your devices, they don't have the capability to do so! Only an uninterruptible power supply with surge protector can manage that!

Posted .Thank you for taking the time to review our BVN650M1. I apologize for the issue you are facing with the unit. Since we are using ABS plastic and injection molding the plastics are heated by a certain amount to be able to be molded and is mostly where smell comes from and would not affect the performance of the unit specially when new and out of the box and will soon dissipate. Apc power surge protector

Lights went out and I had mine with the wifi and tv hooked up. We were able to use our phones with WiFi while lights were out for almost 3 hours
