Great Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far so good. I had to buy a battery back up because the electric gets spotty when the wind picks. The nice thing about this battery back up is the battery could be replaced. Since I got it the power has not gone out yet. Other then that at least now I have the piece of mind when I am doing work on our IMAC.

Returning it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have 3 other APC backups - my oldest one started clicking so I decided to replace it with this newer design. I have been pleased in the past, but my experience with THIS model was enough that I am returning it this morning and taking the time to review it. Plugging it in, the light blinks - I assume initially it is charging. Hook it up to my computer - the PowerChute program tells me it is working off of battery backup. Researching the blinking light in the paperwork, the pattern is also telling me that it is working off the battery backup. The surge protector portion of the unit worked perfectly fine which tells me it's getting electricity, right? I unplug everything - charge it for over 20 hours - it still blinks (meaning, it's still working off of battery backup) only this morning, the battery is near dead. This sounded enough like TomNC's problem (review on 11/15/16) that I fear it may be a model issue or a bad batch which is why I am taking the time to review it at all - so improvements can be made. Like TomNC, I could not find a 800# to call until I saw his review and APC's response, but the unit is packed back up to be returned. Would have been nice to have that number on the paperwork. I will not be considering this newer design for the replacement.

Reliable but less capacity than old ones
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use these APC battery backups exclusively but now you have to buy a bigger one to get the same capacity of the one you are replacing. This 900VA has less capacity than the 650VA APC it is replacing.

Simple peace of mind
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was purchased to protect a backup device from suddenly losing power. It properly allows the backup device to gracefully power down - exactly what I needed it for.

Died after 1 year warranty period
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. From what I've gathered from other reviews, this unit is defective and seems to fail anywhere from a few days to (like mine) a year after purchase. My unit is exhibiting the same issues that other have described. The surge protection outlets will function but, the battery back-up outlets will not. While my unit is reporting that the battery is fully charged, the unit will continue to blink the green LED for 5 seconds and then shutdown with a loud prolonged beep. The powerchute software is unable to run the "self-test" and gives no helpful information as to why. The unit worked fine until its random failure. I believe that there is an at large problem with these units and APC should refund/exchange the units that have made it to customer hands.

Absolute Junk-Do NOT Buy!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had APC backup units over the years that were really good. This one is absolute junk. This is APC Back-UPS 900va (BM900M). This model has a single iMac connected, and that stupid loud clicking sound keeps coming from it. Customer service says to change the sensitivity setting from medium to low. Did that, and it still has that loud clicking sound, and warning on computer screen that it's running on battery power when the electric is fine. This APC Back-UPS is only 2 months old, and it is already junk. The battery indicates that it is 100% charged, so that's not the problem. The house electric voltage is perfect. The problem is these newer APC Back-UPS models are cheaply made circuits, unlike the older models with real inverters in them. Definitely do NOT recommend anyone to buy this.

Posted .Thank you for taking the time to review our UPS. I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with our unit. There is a chance that there power fluctuations on the electrical line that are causing the UPS to go to battery. The previous unit you had may have been part of our BackUPS Pro line which would have voltage regulator in it. If you would like to us to take another look at the UPS please reach out to us at [email protected].

Poor Quality and Performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this UPS because it was inexpensive. I realized that it has many problems. I use it to power my computer and monitor (28" Samsung 4K monitor and Ryzen 7 + GTX 1080 PC). When on battery, the UPS releases a large amount of electromagnetic interference which can interfere with electronics. The power is also very unstable. The voltage fluctuates between 90 and 150 volts. The output is also not sinusoidal, as it is a stepped square wave. When the power draw from the UPS exceeds around 300 watts, the control circuit will glitch out. Sometimes my PC will randomly shut down, other times APC PowerChute displays weird errors and crashes. Overall I would not recommend this UPS. Sure, it is slim and light, but other than that, it is overall terrible.

Posted .Thank you for inquiry. I am sorry to hear about the issues you are having with our unit. Unfortunately it sounds like like the UPS may be too small to support your computer and monitor. I would double check the power draw of your power supply in your computer because usually they require around a 600 watt power for the GTX 1080 video card. The UPS is likely becoming overloaded since it only supports around 480 watts of equipment connected to it. Like you mentioned the unit is a step approximated sine wave so depending on the meter you use you will see the voltage fluctuations. If you weren't true RMS voltmeter then you can see low voltage. You can reference our knowledge base article FA157483 for more information on this. I recommend considered our BackUPS Pro line since this would support more equipment and give you pure sine wave while on battery. Something like our BN1500M2 would work best. Please do not hesitate to reach out to an APCbySchneider sales team if you need further assistance in selected an UPS. Bad quality but good customer service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Device completely failed after just a month or so after purchase and did not keep critical components that were plugged into it powered up. I've read some reviews about poor quality from this company and I can confirm it. I am bumping this up to 2 stars, because they are sending me a new unit under warranty, and that was hassle free. Hopefully the new unit has better QC.

33 days of life
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I switched back to APC due to price/wattage rating when my old(other brand) UPS died after 5 years of service. I purchased the Backups 900 BN900M for 99.99.. Hooked everything up and it worked...for 33 days. Now its beyond the return date and I will have to try to get a warranty claim from APC. From reading their website it looks like I will also be on the hook for shipping my 33 day old unit back to them to receive a "refurbished" unit back... so after spending 106.99 with tax and not sure how much shipping will be but its heavy with the battery this bargain is turning out to be not such a great deal. Hopefully if and when I get a replacement back...which Im sure wont be very quick leaving me with no backup power supply for my home phone and internet...It will last longer than a month...guess I should have stayed with the other brand..few dollars more but lasted years.. not a month.

Very Bad Unit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this unit for support in case of power failure during Hurricane Michael. Charged for over 20 Hrs. Hooked up network and router. Power failed and it worked OK then. Now, at 35 days, it is constantly clicking on-and-off battery power, and will not stop. Battery does backup and does not drop out, but the clicking is getting worse. Going to try to get a new one - - it is past "return-to-seller" date, so will have to see if APC swap for a new one. VERY VERY disappointed. Have used APC UPS at home and at office many many years. If this one is not made right, I will never buy another APC unit, at home or in my role as IT specialist at my plant.

Lasted less than 2 months.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This UPS upped and died on me less than 2 months after I bought it. I found it emitting a constant alarm tone and wouldn't turn on without emitting the tone. I have no idea why and there was nothing I could do to get it working again. The only option I didn't try was buying a new battery for it. But seeing as how they cost nearly half of what a new UPS costs, and there was no guarantee that it would even fix my problem, I decided to just get a different UPS. I'd like to get into more detail but that's all there is. One day it was working; the next it wasn't. Hardly confidence inspiring.
