Really good if the capacity meets your needs
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall – Let me start by saying the APC Back-UPS Pro BN1050M is pretty much what I expect from APC – solid, dependable, and well-built to protect your PC or server without any issues. If you want some peace of mind with power fluctuations or outages, this unit does the job very well. It works exactly what you want a UPS to do. Packaging – Pretty straightforward. The unit is well protected in the box, and everything you need is included. You will need to let it charge first; however, it does that pretty fast. Touch and feel – It has some weight to it, which you’d expect with an internal battery. The build quality feels sturdy and durable. The front LCD screen is actually a nice touch – it’s nice to be able to see the load percentage and estimated runtime without having to open an app or network connections. Setup – Setup is very easy. Clearly marked battery vs. surge-only outlets, and if you want to hook it to your PC or NAS for monitoring, it’s pretty simple and straightforward – at least on the UPS side. Functionality – Here’s where it really depends on your use case. For me, running a PC and a small NAS, it works great. It handles that load without any issues and gives enough runtime to safely shut everything down when the power goes out. The AVR feature is also a plus – it smooths out small fluctuations without constantly kicking over to the battery. The only real drawback is the capacity. As I said, a PC and a small NAS are OK, but anything more than that, I would think you need a higher capacity than what this has. Bottomline – I really like this unit for what it is. It performs as expected, feels well-built, and protects my equipment from power damage. Just be aware of how long it will last if the power goes out – if you have the ability to communicate with the PC or NAS, and do a soft shutdown that would be great. If you need extended runtime, you want to step up to a higher capacity model. I would recommend this, however, make sure it meets your needs and application first

Compact back up power supply that keeps going
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The APC Back-UPS Pro BN1050M is a powerful UPS, uninterruptible power supply, that runs my network when the power goes out. It keeps me online for three hours. My fiber modem and router are never offline so WiFi and Ethernet all over the house continue to work. I can also plug my phone charger into the UPS and keep my phone charged. There is also surge protection built in as well as automatic voltage regulation which protect my equipment. There is a USB to Ethernet cable supplied to connect my computer to the data port on the UPS and available PowerChute software that can automatically save files to protect from data loss when the power goes out. The size is compact to fit in smaller spaces. I was able to set it on my shelf. There is an LCD screen that displays how much time is left before the battery runs down and also when it recharges how long before the battery is back to full power. There are eight outlets total with four for battery backup and four for surge suppression only. Overall this backup power supply performs extremely well balanced with cost.

Solid backup UPS
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This APC is for mid to small computers or other IT devices. It has the standard APC LCD screen and three buttons to control the functions and display of the device. It's not to large or heavy. It has 8 plugs total, 4 connected to the battery backup and 4 that are just surge protectors. There is also a data port on the back for connecting the UPS to your computer/NAS/Router etc. A wiring fault indicator light and circuit break reset round out the functions on the back of the unit. To have battery work, you turn over the unit, slide the battery cover door off and connect the positive wire, red, to the positive plug on the battery. A battery usually lasts 3-5 years in the ones I have owned. Then you can decide if it's worth buying another battery or a whole new unit depending on price. With the battery connected and then the unit plugged into a wall socket your UPS is ready to work. The screen will allow you to cycle through input voltage, load, time remaining, etc. Connecting the UPS to a computer gives you full control over the device. Load the APC power chute software on a PC, power it from the battery side of the UPS and you have all the information on you screen. You can see voltage, loads, time remaining etc. You can easily set when the UPS should shutdown, time remaining or time from loss of power. It will monitor when power outages occur, under/over voltage, and electrical noise. If you put in your power cost, it will estimate the cost of running the devices it backs up. Time remaining on the UPS and watts used per day are also shown. The UPS condition, and self-testing are all easily done from the software. You can set the alarm, voltage parameters, and notifications. Powerchute works well to setup and monitor the UPS. You don't have to use the front of the device at all. You can access the most of the functions through the buttons on the device. You can put it in any location and still monitor what it's doing through the serial to USB cable. I used this UPS to backup my ONT, modem, and few other devices I'd want to keep going for a bit if the power goes out. For a small load I have over an hour of run time. UPS's aren't just for a computers. My IO Safe/Synology NAS also saw the UPS with no issues. APC has built another solid UPS, easy to setup and protect your gear until a power shutdown, or keep your gear going for a bit longer. For short power outages, you'll never realize one hit for the devices connected to it.

Peace of mind for power outages
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a long-time user of APC’s backup battery products, I was excited to get my hands on the new Back-UPS Pro BN1050M mini-tower model. It provides all of the reliable features I’m accustomed to having, as well as one that my older model did not have: a display screen. Getting started is easy. After unboxing, you’ll notice the big yellow sticker advising you that the battery is not yet connected. To do so, simply slide open the battery door, connect the pink wire, then close the door. As a bonus, I got to see a little spark as the wire’s metal got close to the connector. That told me that the battery already had a charge. To start using the UPS, simply choose what to plug in to the 8 provided outlets. While all of the outlets are protected from surges, only 4 of them have battery backup. You’ll want to make sure that the things you’ll need most during a power outage are connected to the outlets with battery backup. The outlets are nicely spaced, and I had no trouble connecting all my devices. At its core, the BN1050M is a battery and surge protector, but a smart one. In addition to protecting your devices from dangerous electricity spikes, it also regulates the power output so that it’s steady and “clean”. If the power goes out, it can provide enough power to safely shut everything down without losing anything you’ve been working on. The built-in display shows things like how much power is being put out, charge level of the battery, and load being pulled by the connected devices. When I tested the unit by pulling the plug, it immediately notified me with a loud beep that I was on battery power. These beeps continue every 20 seconds or so to remind you. The LED shows an estimate of how much time is left before the battery runs out. Both the display and the alarm can be turned of if you like. Initially, the display showed a pretty impressive number of more than 90 minutes, but it quickly scaled down until it settled in around 35 minutes. That was based on a laptop and two 4K monitors plugged in. The estimate ended up being pretty accurate, as I did indeed get to keep working for more than 30 minutes, and I still had some power to spare. APC estimates that you can run off battery power for more than 3.5 hours if all you need is your internet router and modem. In a pinch, that could be a good way to go. The BN1050M also includes a feature that I thought was a great idea, although I did not test it. In the box there is also a cable with an ethernet plug on one end and USB-A plug on the other. When paired with the Powerchute app on a desktop computer, it can safely shut down a desktop computer without human intervention when a power outage is detected. This would be very useful for a desktop that runs unattended throughout the day, but that’s not my use case. Having a battery backup gives peace of mind to know that even if the power goes out, you’ll be able to safely shut down without losing your work. Even if you only use it to provide internet during an outage, your phones and other mobile devices can keep working for hours, and maybe not miss a beat. The Back-UPS Pro BN1050M is a compact unit that is thoughtfully designed and does what it’s supposed to do. You can rest easy knowing that you’ll be prepared for a temporary power outage. I know I do.

Luck of the Draw
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased two of these guys, one of them works/worked great. The other must've been repackaged by the next world-class resealer because it was a complete dud. Feel free to pick one up if you're feeling lucky.

Must have if working from home
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review is on an APC - Back-UPS Pro BN1050M - Black. If you work from home, then you need a battery backup. At some point you will loose power and then the work you was doing. When that power goes out anything you were typing up or creating will be possibly lost. Put your mind at ease with this UPS. I connect to multiple applications from home to my employer. If I loose connection then I have to bother with signing back into everything. This UPS will save me the headache, especially if the outage was for just a few minutes. I was surprised how heavy it is for its size but not heavy enough to move around nor will it get kicked around by accident. It has a large enough display that I can read from my chair while it is on the floor. It has 3 buttons that can turn the alarm sound off/on, power on/off, and to light up the display panel. The display can also be turned on by the software. Setup was easy. Just pull the battery out and connect one terminal. It has four battery backup plugs and four surge protected plugs. It has a light that will indicate if your home wiring is bad. Also has a cord to connect by USB to your computer for a web based UI. Installing the PowerChute software was easy. It operates under your web browser. When I first tried to open the link, it sent me to a localhost that said unsecured website. I don't really like it when I get these messages but I know it is localhost so I just clicked on proceed button on the page and it took me to login. Once logged in, there is a lot of information at hand about the battery. You can run a self diag test. Setup timed shutdown parameters including using special commands. Check for updates. Energy reports and logs. Get event E-mails. You can also log in while being away and shutdown the computer remotely.

The Usual Quiet APC Power Backup/Surge
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I began using strictly APC products years ago when a similar brand let me down several times and I wasn't happy about the results at all. Never a problem with an APC unit. This 1050VA 600 watt unit is a little larger than the usual ones you might use under a desk to keep your computer and modem/router up and running during a power blip or short outage. Those events are very common in Florida so this thing is a must. I have a bigger APC unit to power and protect my networking equipment so things like security cameras can stay up and running for a while during outages. This was very simple to set up (the usual sticker removal and the attaching of the positive power cable to the internal battery) and connecting the power cords to either the power/surge outlets or just surge. Of course, you devote the power backup outlets to things that you want to stay on--PC etc. It has 4 outlets of each kind. It also has a display that shows the voltage, remaining battery and load percentage. You can't hear any noise or feel any heat out of it, and it also has a mute button for the alarm audio. It doesn't take up a lot of room, and is invaluable for a home office.

Not worth the hassle
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It frequently will power back on after being turned off. I have to remove the battery and let it sit for roughly 5 minutes and maybe it will turn back on. Happened just a few days after the store's return window. It may be related to this; the contacts for the battery are extremely stressed when connected and the battery is fit back in the body of the unit. I wouldn't recommend. I will need to contact the manufacturer for any assistance.
