I have trusted APC to provide our surge/battery needs at work for years. There was no second guessing where to turn for my home battery backup needs. Because most of us have no idea how much draw our devices are putting on the UPS, the SECOND-BEST FEATURE on this UPS over other models, is the DISPLAY SCREEN that offers LOAD readings (mine is currently 7W-ish as this UPS powers a laptop, wifi router and cell phone charger with dual monitors on the surge only side). My UPS screen "LOAD DRAW" graphic shows no load because I am pulling less than 20% load (each increment is 20% on the graphic), a FULLY CHARGED BATTERY icon (again, each solid block represents 20% of charge), and a steady 7W of current draw. Cycling through the display button you can see load as a %, input volts/Hz (125/60), and estimated run time at current draw (>180 minutes for me). I have used "off-brand" battery backups that don't have displays. When you don't know what the icons and blinky lights mean you begin to realize the importance of the LED screen and its details. Some backups will just give you an amber light next to an icon you have to decipher. What does amber squiggly line mean? How much runtime does "green" mean? But I said this was the SECOND-BEST FEATURE of this UPS. So, what is the BEST FEATURE? THE ABILITY TO SILENCE THE UPS!!! Our old UPS did not have a mute button. When the power goes out in the middle of the night, the incessant beeping of a UPS can drive you crazy! When operating normally, the device emits no noise. [Bonus: The screen on this APC Back-UPS 1500 also goes dark after 30 seconds so you aren't dealing with another glowing device in your home or office all night long.] ALL THE OTHER GREAT STUFF: 10 outlets! Keep in mind, 6 are battery+surge and 4 are surge only. In my scenario, the laptop, wifi router, and phone charger are all on the battery+surge and the dual monitors (and inkjet printer) are on the surge only. I don't need the extra monitors or printer if the power goes out. Surge protection across all the outlets is a nice "peace of mind" feature. We have a second APC Back-UPS for our tv/stereo/subwoofer just to protect those usually on devices from surges/dips in bad weather. We don't rely on the TV (110W) or the stereo (250W+) staying powered on, we simply don't want the investment to get fried. If you want to get fancy, you can download the PowerChute Personal Edition for your computer to do things like gracefully shut down your computer during an outage, view energy usage statistics, monitor runtime, view power events, etc. There is an ethernet to USB-A cable included with the system. Lastly, the USB-A and USB-C charge ports on the front of the unit are a nice convenience. The only word of warning, and this goes for all battery backups, is that of course, one day the battery will no longer hold a charge. APC/Scheider is good about offering replacement batteries for all their UPSes. However, replacement batteries aren't cheap--my experience is that they can be as high as half the price to replace the entire UPS...so I often just buy new UPS systems rather than just a replacement battery. FYI: If you aren't sure how much VA/W you need in your battery backup, Schneider has a nice but slightly confusing tool at https://www.se.com/us/en/work/products/tools/ups_selector/. Even easier, pick your favorite AI and tell it you want to know the power load in watts for a <insert your device(s) here>. Once you have your total power load figured out, you can then ask "What is the estimated runtime for an APC Back-UPS 1500 with a load of <insert your number> watts?" This will help you determine, based on desired runtime, whether or not this unit meets your needs.

    Nice, High-capacity Battery Backup!

As it is getting close to the end of life the third battery for my main UPS (the original plus two replacements) of a different brand, I decided it was finally time to do an upgrade. While my old one was good enough to get my computer into Hibernate mode automatically and also keep our internet connection up (the router and the fiber terminal box), I was really wanting something with more capacity to be to keep at least one monitor on of there is an outage occurring when I am working from home (work PC is a laptop, so Ok for the most part with that). I went with the APC Back-UPS Pro 1500VA version to help meet that personal requirement. Compared to my old UPS, the new one has an extra 650VA (almost 400W in power rating), so it should give me a decent amount of runtime in the event of a power outage (with estimates of around 45 minutes with how I am connecting now, compared to 19 minutes of PC and internet equipment only for my old one). And with the larger capacity comes a much bigger size. The battery is basically two batteries joined end-to-end, so the entire device is fairly long. Before using, the battery must be connected, which is easily done. Just slide off the side panel, pull/tilt the battery up, and connect the indicated plug to the terminal on the battery. Once it was all ready, I turned it on. The screen is done well, with a slight angle up, and a crisp LED display, which all makes for easier viewing when located on the floor (a big improvement over the flat to-the-front screen for my old one). There is a button on the left of the power button that will cycle through different stats, such as input voltage, frequency, current load (watts) and current expected available runtime. Pressing it for more than 2 seconds will toggle between full-time display mode or power saving mode (displays only when pressing to cycle through). Another button on the right will mute (quick press) or enable/disable (long press) the outage alarm. Just below the center power button are two USB charging ports, one Type-A and one Type-C. It shows that at least the Type-C is a 3.0A fast charging port, but not sure about the Type-A (couldn’t find any other details for that). I was actually glad to see the Type-C as I can now plug in an extra watch charger I keep in the office there instead of port on my PC, freeing that one up. It connects to a computer with an included USB (computer) to RJ-45 (UPS) cable. For the included surge protection (which rated at 1080 joules), there are 10 plugs in the back (4 are surge-only with the remaining 6 as connected to the battery), Ethernet LAN RJ-45 (in and out), and coax (in and out). The shutdown and configuration software for Windows PCs is their PowerChute Serial Shutdown, which has a web interface. After installing and creating an account (which is optional, but recommended), it will eventually open to its web interface in the browser. There is an initial setup for it, but it all can be adjusted later. I wasn’t really able to find much information about how the settings, especially ones related to the shutdown timings as the descriptions/labels are not really clear, are supposed to work on the Schneider Electric/PowerChute software pages (could only find release notes). I did eventually find the details in the Help link inside PowerChute web interface (top right corner). While we don't have a lot of power outage throughout the year, they can occur frequently during the Spring and Summer stormy seasons. Having this new additional one should give me more working time and also allow me to move my old one to keep up another router we have in another part of the house (at least until that battery is completely done for).

Thank you for taking the time to review our UPS. I am sorry to hear that you ran into issues with our UPS. The runtime on the UPS would depend on how much power the connected equipment draws. There is a chance that the connected equipment is drawing more power than expected. At full load, 900 watts, the UPS would provide 3 minutes of runtime. At half load, 450 watts, the UPS would provide 11 minutes of runtime. APC

Also Works for 3D Printers and Not Just Computers

I purchased the APC 1500VA UPS specifically to protect my 3D printer from unexpected power interruptions and it's worth every penny in my situation. Anyone who runs long prints understands how frustrating losing power can be. Even though many 3D printers have “power loss recovery” feature. Losing power overnight and discovering a failed 12–16 hour print in the morning is frustrating, but also wastes time and filament. This UPS is not a cure-all for extended outages, but it can be a lifeline or safety net for short power interruptions such as tripped circuit breakers. In my situation, my printer is located in the garage, which shares a circuit breaker with the kitchen. Occasionally, when certain appliances are used during cooking, the breaker can trip and cuts power to the printer. The APC 1500VA UPS has a power-loss alarm that immediately alerts me to find the issue, giving me 40-45 minutes of printing time to reset the breaker and restore normal power. Obviously the APC 1500VA was meant for computers, but it's been able to keep my 3D printer running when unexpected power cuts happens and gives me enough time to resolve the issue without wasting time not knowing the print was stopped. it's been a cheaper alternative than hiring an certified electrician to add an extra or dedicated circuit breaker. Overall, I've been pretty happy with the APC 1500VA UPS offering a peace of mind and excellent value for anyone needing a decent amount of time to either turn off your computer or keep a 3D printer going.

    The Gold Standard in UPS

I have owned several APC units over the years, but one time, I owned another brand which lasted only 6 months before failing. All my APC units have lasted years, and I have one that is now on its 4th replacement battery. Hard to believe that the hardware lasts that long, especially in an era of throwaway electronics and appliances when they fail. I have never had to use the APC warranty so cannot comment on that (a good thing). Their replacement batteries are more expensive than competitors, but when you see how long they last, you will be happy that they are as cheap as they are. I am using this particular APC for my entertainment system of TV, receiver, streaming boxes, gaming consoles, cable box etc. I have not timed how long it will remain on in a power outage, but if it gets its rated capacity, it should last for over 90 minutes or more with the load it carries. I rarely have power outages lasting more than just a few minutes anyway. I like the voltage regulation it provides, even though we do not experience brownouts here. Solid piece of mind and the ONLY UPS I will buy in the future.

    Awesome UPS

Great UPS for my workstation / gaming computer. Currently I have my 2 monitors, router, computer, and a few miscellaneous electronics hooked up to this UPS to protect all of my equipment from any power fluctuations and power outages. It works great and immediately switches to battery power any time it detects that the power provided from the main outlet is not enough or if there is a surge. In my area, this happens a lot more than usual and actually caused my previous computer to have a power supply failure. To add to the protection features as well, this unit can hook up to your PC with a data cable and gracefully power it down for you in the event of a long power outage using APC's Powerchute application (which can be downloaded directly from the APC website). Battery power lasts for up to 40 minutes after a power outage with everything powered on under standard load, which gives plenty of time to make sure all important work is saved. I expect many years of valuable power protection for my equipment from this quality piece of equipment.

    Happy so far

I purchased 2 new computers and bought this because of power flickering during storms cause Computers to shut down and internet resets. I has doubtful this would handle my loads but so far i am very pleased. I have 2 Alienware - Aurora R7 Desktop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 - 2TB Hard Drive + Intel Optane Memory - Epic silver hooked up along with 2 24" LED monitors, a modem and a wireless router. While playing world of warcraft and watching the display it says I have 10 to 18 min of usage when the power goes out. This is more than enough time for me to shut down the computers if the powers goes out and this will keep my computer and internet from resetting when the power flickers. I will post a update later when I have been using this for a couple of months.
