Good Protection, Mediocre Software, & Serious Flaw

For the most part, this battery backup is exactly what it claims to be; a high-amperage battery backup that can run and protect a decent gaming rig and office setup for close to an hour during an outage or spike. However, I have two complaints about this device; one minor, and one major. The minor one I can forgive. The major one would be a dealbreaker had I known about it in advance. The minor one is the software. The APC PowerChute software is nearly identical to the way it was back in the early 2000s from my first device, and still just as poorly designed, limited, and unintuitive. Once I had the initial values set, I completely uninstalled it and am using the native Windows subsystem to control it. If you don't intend to change the default protection settings or are willing to do so from the onboard LCD screen, don't even bother installing the software; just let Windows do the work. The major flaw with this device is the Ethernet "protection". I'm not sure what malarkey happened in the design or build process, but on a known good CAT-6 Gigabit ethernet system, all traffic slowed to a crawl as collisions went through the roof. 1Gbps was still reporting, and DHCP still functioned, but the network instantly became nearly useless. I (as an IT pro) spent three days futzting with it before giving up and just not using Ethernet protection. Known good cables, clean ports, correct orientation, but just utterly useless. Didn't even bother trying to use the coax protection. It's not worth returning the device since I have my entire network isolated via a different (also APC) UPS making the passthrough in this somewhat redundant, but it's still frustrating that a normally reputable company would pass testing on a product with such issues; yeah it technically works, but so poorly that it's garbage. The ironic thing is there was a receipt-style printout taped to the device that shows, among other things, ethernet PASSED. Uh huh. Sure. In summary, if you don't need Ethernet protection, go for it; the rest of this product (minus the software) is rock-solid. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

Excellent UPS to protect your devices. The screen shows you the VA entrance, Watts consume, the current load, the time remaining according the current load of devices plugged. I have connected 3 devices only: - 1 Asus Monitor gamer 24" - PC gaming (i7 9gen, 2060, 32ram, leds in case, in keyborad, in mouse, etc) - PS5 When power went out: - It gives me around 75-82 minutes with monitor and PC (using for basic things, web, office, etc) - Around 50 minutes with monitor and PC (doing 3d models in Maya) - Around 20-25 minutes with monitor and PC (when gaming) - Like 15-20 minutes to shut down everything if I'm using the 3 devices at the same time (doing basic things in PC, and gaming in PS5) I have other APC, but it is the 900VA capacity, and it is enough for a PC (like mine) and monitor, it gives your around 12-35 minutes depending what are you doing.

Great Run Time! Plenty of outlets

This is a great unit! One of the things I like best is the fact it has 10 outlets. 6 are Battery Backup and Surge, and 4 are Surge only. In addition 2 of the outlets are spaced apart enough to support power "bricks"/transformers. As far as runtime I have a Mac mini, Studio Display and chargers for my iPad and iPhone connected to it and with all plugged in at the same time it puts about a 6% load on the unit giving me between 97 and 100 minutes of runtime!

I got this to prevent power surge damage in case there ever was one my buddy had one and it works amazing though I haven’t had a power outage or surge yet I trust it completely it looks very nice and fits snuggly on the side of my desk making my setup look that much more techy although a little pricey.

Good choice for a backup power supply

I have been using Back-UPS Pros for many years. They are easy to set up and manage. This unit has plenty of outlets: 6 with surge & backup power and 4 additional surge protected outlets (all 3-prong). It also as USB ports, although I don't use them. The following are basic limitations of this type of device to keep in mind but are not a product flaw. (1) They are heavy; hence, lift carefully and plan to sit them on the floor. (2) The batteries last years but eventually need to be replaced. However, because all surge protectors (built in to this device) tend to degrade over time (especially if you frequently get power "jolts" and blackouts), I sleep better by simply replacing the entire unit when the battery needs replacing. (This one that I just bought replaces a unit that lasted over 15 years.)

Very easy to setup just be sure to plug battery in like the stickers say. Don't worry about a few beeps as the battery has to charge a little before warning beeps go off but that just takes a couple minutes.

    A Must for Remote Workers

I work remotely (40 mins from office) and, while the office has a generator backup and a UPS for the server, there weren't UPS for any of the work stations. I chose this because, while it's overkill for one work station, as the battery ages, it'll still be dependable. Easy to setup. Dead silent. Totally reliable.

I have been running APC products for years, and currently have three in use now; two rated at 1500VA and a smaller one that I use as both a backup and surge suppresser. When the small one inevitably dies, I'll replace it with a unit like this. This is my third APC unit of this size. I've had several smaller ones, but they seem to die after a couple of years. The larger units run well, and have the added advantage of having a replaceable battery, since that seems to be the most common point of failure as they age. Replacing the battery is much cheaper than buying another complete unit. I use to think to buy just enough VA to support my current equipment demand, but I've learned that loading a back-up supply beyond 80% capacity seems to shorten its life.

I have UPS for all my computers, and have used APC over the years. Although power interruptions don't happen often, they are a pain when they do. This unit offers the protection that I want. It comes with PowerChute software which provides for an orderly shutdown of your equipment if you're not around when the power failure occurs. It's a good package that meets my needs.

So far, the unit is working perfectly!! Robust and quick to respond...compact (vs. similar models), easy to use, and comes with great reviews! I'm unsure of the replacement battery costs (long-term review), but it's a great option to consider... Just my opinion.

Setting the unit up took only a few minutes. There are enough backed up ports to protect was should not go down during an outage (network drives, router, modem, PC). The outlets have surge protection. During the last couple of weeks we had a number of power outages but the system kept all critical devices up.

APC is a pretty well-known name in the commercial and enterprise UPS/Battery Back-Up market, so I figured they were worth a try for my home setup. I had picked this model out after looking at a couple of places online to get an idea of how big a UPS I would need (this may be a little overkill for me but I figure better to have a little more than required rather than a little less). I watched prices on Amazon and at BestBuy for awhile and was able to get this one from BestBuy when it was less than what Amazon had it for. Ordered it at lunch and was able to pick it up curbside on my home from work. Setup was very easy, I also registered the product with APC to be covered by the warranty and equipment protection coverage if any of my equipment is damaged. I also downloaded the optional PowerChute software for a few extra management options. We have not had any storms or power outages yet but I did test this thing after hooking everything up by unplugging it from the wall. Everything stayed on, there was no sign that it had switched from utility power to battery except for the screen on the front and the beep, I was pretty impressed. The unit will beep periodically while it is on battery power but if this bothers you there is a button on the front to silence the beeping. I had seen some reviews of this model where people complained that it was noisy. This one is whisper-quiet it does not make a peep. I'm guessing that if it took a couple of heavy surges it might develop a hum in the fan or something like that over a long time but so far this one is super quiet. As for how long the battery lasts, my setup is a desktop computer, cable modem, router, two large monitors, and a sound system; when I unplugged it from power it showed right at around an hour of battery time available with everything turned on. Just for fun I shut the computer down and just plugged my phone into it on one of the usb ports on the front of the UPS and it moved to nearly 3 hours of battery time. So not only will this guy protect your electronics from power surges, keep them powered on when the power goes out so that you can save your work and shut down gracefully, you can also charge your phone if the power is out. This thing is great, we are incredibly happy with it right now. If we are as happy with it after some storms/power outages we will probably buy another one for our living room TV/Xbox setup as well.

APC has been protecting computers for years. Their UPS systems are reliable and easy to setup. I bought four of this model for a one bedroom apartment. They protect electronic gear during the frequent power outages. The large capacity keeps electronic equipment running longer. It also supports LED lighting. The UPS provides surge protected outlets. It can also protect your Ethernet and the line going to your cable modem (Spectrum etal). The USB ports can power a small light or fan. Prevent future agravation. Order an APC UPS and enjoy using some products while power is restored. And more important, shutdown computers without loosing data.

I really like this UPS, because it offered lots of power to run my devices for an extended period of time, coupled with the reliability of APC power protection devices (I had previously purchased an APC surge protector that I think is great). It also offers a lot of options for providing surge protection, plugging in devices with off-sized adapters, charging USB devices, and even for communicating with your computing devices so that they can monitor the state of your UPS and shutdown automatically before the battery in the UPS runs out. All of these features can be found in other models, from both APC and from other manufacturers, but this model seemed to offer the best combination of all of these features, which made my purchase decision easy.

I've always had APC-UPS's and this one is a great addition to my office. I've got a Mac Mini, 2 monitors, an ethernet switch, and a few peripherals hooked up to it. After a few power outages, I can say that this great and when it is in use, the switch over is seamless and gives plenty of time to safely shut down, if the power is out for longer than 45 minutes.
