Best Buy past return period, their service department was NOT helpful. Called APC support and they WERE very helpful. Sending a replacment battery. Assuming new battery works longer term, I will update the review.

I saw a response from APC claiming that it was a known issue and they had fixed it. My unit still has that. I contacted customer support, but got no help whatsoever. I was given a set of steps to do a self test. I realize that the CS reps have to follow a script, but if this is a known issue, do I really need to do these irrelevant steps? After doing the self test and getting a result saying everything is fine, the CS rep responded, "I am glad I have been able to resolve your issue ..." This issue has not been resolved and now I get no response from APC. I have many APC units now, but I can't see buying more.

A few months later, when a bad storm came and shut off the power, I turned it on. Battery was dead even though I've never used it. The machine would not charge the battery even though it was plugged in for hours. I disassembled it to see if anything on the circuit board was burnt; everything inside looked fine. I know the battery couldn't have been dead. I used wires to connect the positive with the negative terminals and got a spark, so the battery had electricity. At least I got a battery I can use for later.
