Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the Power Saving Back-UPS XS 1500's long battery life, strong performance, and ease of use. Many also appreciate its surge protection capabilities and the competitive price point. While some users noted the weight and occasional fan noise, the positive feedback on key features outweighs these minor drawbacks.

    Is there enough power?

The advertisment stated "up to 164 minutes". I realize this is probably with one CPU with the monitor, printer and all other additional pieces plugged in elsewhere, but I was surprised to only get 19 minutes of back-up protection with our main server and on other server for our phones plugged into it. I only have the CPUs connected for back-up. Not what I was hoping for. I will have to use this unit on my workstation and will have to search for a larger unit for my servers.

BEWARE IF USING WITH NEW DELL XPS 9000 SYSTEMS

This seems like a great unit...and I'm sure it probably is, but it does NOT work with new Dell XPS 9000 computers. These new computer need a true "sine wave" which is ONLY available with the APC SMART backup systems. I wish I would have know this first. I spent HOURS with Dell and APC tech support to figure this out. The WORST part is every time it would "self test" the battery it was the same thing as pulling the plug on the computer when it was turned on. This is exactly what I was trying to prevent and why I bought the unit. APC SHOULD list if a common computer system is NOT compatible before the consumer buys it!!!!

    Don't buy

The APC website recomended a less expensive model - I upgraded to this "better" model. But, It did not support my computer when I pulled the plug from the wall. My computer shut down and restarted in "Secure Mode" after an improper shut-down. An APC technician tested the unit by phone and said it was "working properly", then sent me a long email explaining why this model would not work with my new Dell XPS Core i7 "high-powered" computer. APC said I needed a "Smart UPS" costing $300+. So, I unplugged this APC to return to Best Buy and plugged in my old $50 UPS, a Conext 500 bought in 2001. Guess what?? It worked perfectly with my new "high-powered" computer. LESSON? Don't buy this APC UPS - it doesn't work normally, and it's expensive. Save money & go for a less expensive brand and model !!

lasts about 1 year, less if used during an outage. Must have old fashion carbon batteries. Try it without your device pliuge into your outlet. What a waste of $.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about our BX1500G. I am sorry to hear of the issues you are facing with our unit and any inconvenience it has caused. The UPS would come with a 3 year factory warranty on it. Please reach out to an APCbySchneider support team at your convenience so we can assist you resolving this issue. We offer email and chat services through our support site and you may also contact us directly at 800-800-4272 option 4. The UPS would also use lead-acid battery not carbon batteries. APC

    Not compatible with all hardware

I bought one of these to protect a mission-critical machine. It does NOT WORK. I contacted APC, and the support tech said the unit gives out "stepped approximated sinewave output" power (whatever that is) when running on batteries, and that power is not compatible with some HP and Dell models. !!!! I thought power is power, VA is VA ... But obviously that is not the case, and my machine does not appreciate it. :( Three weeks after purchasing this item, I have ordered a replacement model from TrippLite.

    Fine, while it works

1st one, the battery wouldn't charge after less than a week 2nd one, after being on for a 1/2 hour, it would shut itself off. Then after 3-4 secs. turn itself back on. And keep repeating the cycle every 3-4 seconds. 3rd one has been running for 2 days now. So far so good. To APC's credit, both replacements have each arrived in 2 days. (shipping out of PA.) And prepay the UPS for the return.

I bought this to replace a BX1500LCD APC backup unit that worked perfectly for 6 years until the battery finally died last month. I went to best buy and purchased the APC - Back-UPS XS 1500 VA Tower UPS. Went home hooked it up everything was good for two weeks then it started acting strange, the fan coming on and off. This morning at 5:00 am I wake up to beeping noises and battery dead on the display. I unhooked it to bring it back and noticed something has oozed out of the side of it (possibly acid?). There are other reviews here that relate similar battery dead issues within a short time after purchase. NEVER AGAIN WILL I PURCHASE AN APC PRODUCT!

    Get a BR1500G instead

I was in a hurry to replace my UPS and didn't want to mail order and instead hit Best to grab a replacement. This is very close to APC's BR1500G except it's missing the ability to added the external battery pack which greatly extends battery run time. It would be one thing if the feature drop for the BX came with a price drop but you can actually find the BR1500G online for the same price or less actually leaving no reason to buy the XS 1500

    It died after a month.

I bought one and took it back after a few days because it was making a horrible noise. Exchanged it for the exact same model. That one lasted a month before the display stopped working. I hooked it up to several different monitors to make sure before lugging it back to the store. They discovered the same problem. It was 2 days past the 30 day return time. Luckily, I had bought the Black Tie service. They said that the video card and CPU are attached, so they had to send it out to be repaired. It is supposed to be back in 3 weeks. I couple of years ago I had an ASUS laptop for about 10 months until I couldn't stand it anymore. Nobody could figure out what the problem was. So, I sold it to a friend who does network security. I think it is in a better place now. LOL! I'm never going near ASUS again no matter how good of a deal.

    HORRIBAD JUNK!! SUPPORT EVEN WORSE!!

Always had bad luck with APC and this case no different. Only model big enough at our local store so I had to go with APC over CyberPower. First mistake!!! Had about month of course after store return policy and battery fails. Contact support and they have you JUMPING though every hoop known to anything that breaths. After this process is done they TRY to blame anything but the junk they are suppose to support. DO NOT buy APC...you are paying a premium price for refurb quality at best. AVOID at all costs as there are better for less. Wish I could give a ZERO stars.
