Power your internet in a blackout - A must have
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.2020 was an interesting year for most of us. The vast majority of us found ourselves working from our bedrooms, kitchen tables and whatever empty space available at home, and our kids were going to school remotely, in whatever space that was left for them to attend classes. Adjustments were made to our lives when everything went remote. We bought laptops, headphones, desks and chairs, upgraded our internet speeds and added new wifi ax routers, all in the hopes that these items will make the remote work a bit more tolerable. The one thing we all neglected - the lack of power back up for brownouts. I am guilty of that too. Last year, on one of the hottest days of the year, I lost power, well everyone in the neighbourhood lost power as a transformer blew out. I was out for a long time before power was restored. A week later, I bought myself a UPS to try and save the headache of rebuilding my critical NAS (network-attached storage) that abruptly shut down on me due to the outage. A few weeks ago, I was thinking it was rather nice that we had not lost power this year, and then it happened again, but this time because my NAS was behind a UPS, they stayed up long enough for me to manually shut them down, but I realized a break in my safety net. My network goes down when the power goes out as it is NOT connected to a UPS. Hence, I got a 450VA (250W) UPS specifically to power my network components. The UPS provides power to my cable modem, the Wifi router, the switch and the tiny industrial computer that runs my pfSense firewall. This came in handy as the other night in a lightning storm, the power went out for a few minutes. My network stayed up, and so did my NAS and laptops. Setting up the device is quite easy, it has 4 outlets that are spaced well for transformers to provide battery backup and surge protection and two outlets that are surge only. Upon opening the box, you must connect the transport fuse on the bottom, and then it takes about 8 hours to fully charge, but you can immediately use your devices to provide battery protection. My only gripe is that it does not have a USB out to use the auto-shutdown of the connected device feature. A UPS this size is perfect for protecting and powering a network stack and this should be a must-have for anybody who works remotely. I am glad I got this as its real-world use has already demonstrated itself. Based on the power load of my devices, I could run about 30-45 minutes on battery with this 450VA UPS, your results may vary based on your connected devices. That though is more than enough to help shut down the systems during a longer outage. In this connected world, it's necessary that our outside links stay active because, without the internet, we are quite lost.

Great Battery Backup for the Home Network
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The APC Home Network Battery Backup UPS with 450VA/255 Watts and surge protector is one of those devices where you just set it and forget it until it's needed when the power goes out or when there is a voltage drop. I have this device plugged into my home networking equipment composed of the internet service provider’s internet gateway and my wireless router. After I powered it up and charged the battery to the recommended 24 hours, I tested it by unplugging the unit and seeing how long the battery backup lasted. For my use case, I was able to get around 1 hour 45 minutes, which is plenty to finish off whatever I’m doing on the internet and shutting down properly. The APC Home Network 450VA just plain works. Another great feature of this unit is that it is compact and unobtrusive measuring 9.98” L x 4.13” W x 5.51” H. There are also a total of 6 outlets, 4 of which offer battery backup plus surge protection, and the remaining 2 are surge protectors only. The 4 outlets are generously spaced apart to allow you to plug in wall warts. It even comes with wall mount holes. You’ll need to hang on to the included user manual because it provides valuable information on what all the different battery indicator modes and status indicator lights and alarms mean. An improvement would be for these modes and indicators to be placed as a stickered label on the unit itself for quick reference in case the user manual is misplaced. I highly recommend this device to protect your valuable home networking equipment and to provide the extra power to your network during blackouts.

Be Prepared
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After the insanity of this past February, I wanted to ensure that we had a solid battery backup in place for our WiFi devices so we didn't lose contact with the outside world if the power went out again during the upcoming Texas winter. The box itself is a pretty sturdy design. It has a total of 6 outlets - 4 that are both surge protected and battery back up and another 2 that are only surge protected. Just to be clear - there are only 4 outlets that will draw on the battery backup in the event of a power failure, so make sure you chose the right 4. Our home network setup is pretty minimal, most rooms have ethernet ports and are hardwired connected. I connected both our AT&T Internet gateway and the unmanaged, 8-port gig switch to the batter backup outlets, even though only the router / gateway will really be useful. All other ports that the switch powers throughout the house aren't on battery backup, so when the power goes out, the gateway will be handling 100% of our traffic instead of sharing the load with the other 2 mesh extenders. I turned off the breaker intentionally to test after letting it draw power overnight and it picked up and worked fine. I didn't test for the full 2 hour claim, my wife wouldn't let me kill the power to our bathroom for that long. I also honestly don't know if the 2 hour claim is for a single device, or several. I have to imagine that the more devices you plug in, the more you lose from that 2 hour claim, so your mileage may vary there. All in all, I'm glad we have this now. The rolling blackouts from earlier this year still haunt us, so whatever we can do to prep to try and avoid losing total connectivity is a must.

Simple UPS gets it done
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a simple UPS that's intended to be used with accessories rather than computers themselves, although it can also work, for a shorter duration. It's a 'square wave' UPS and with a typical sealed lead-acid battery. 'Square Wave' UPS are simpler as it doesn't recreate the Sine Wave of AC current. It's enough to connect the power bricks from network routers, Wi-Fi and cable modems, but it might not work as expected on more precise power supplies. It also doesn’t have USB ports for charging nor for monitoring. I'm adding this to the Wi-Fi router and cable modem so these can still work during outages and short power loss that can happen during winter. It's very light. Four plugs are battery-protected, and spaced to be able to hold power bricks and two more outlets that are fur surge-protection only. The single button on the UPS is the on/off button and also works as an alarm mute and power light. There is also a push-button breaker on the side. The power connector is flat an angled, so it doesn't block the top outlet and can fit behind furniture. Battery is replaceable but one would have to open the unit to replace it. No battery cover. It can also be wall-mounted, it has two holes on the back to receive mounting screws For a simple, affordable UPS for network devices and accessories, it's a good choice.

Reliable, Compact, and a Lifesaver During Outages!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been using the APC Back-UPS Connect 450VA for a few months now, and I couldn’t be happier with its performance. It’s the perfect solution for keeping my modem, router, and essential devices powered during short outages and brownouts. Setup was a breeze — plug it in, connect your devices, and you’re good to go. What I love most is how compact and quiet it is. It doesn’t take up much space and runs silently in the background. The 6 outlets are super handy, especially with 2 of them being surge-protected. It gives me peace of mind knowing my equipment is safe from power spikes. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly, reliable UPS for home networking or small electronics, this unit is a total no-brainer. APC has once again delivered top-notch quality!

Power & Spike Protection in a Small Package
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The APC Back-UPS Battery Backup and Surge Protector is the perfect add-on for our home network configuration. On multiple occasions, our cat has managed to knock out our power plug and shut down our network. The APC provides a constant up time for our Wi-Fi Router/Hub. Small UPS With Huge Impact
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This little APC Back-UPS Connect has been absolutely outstanding for low power devices and easily earns 5 stars from me. I use it to keep my modem and Wi‑Fi router running, and it has been rock solid every time the power blinks or goes out. For everyday outages, it gives me plenty of time to stay online, finish what I am doing, and avoid that sudden “no internet” frustration. What really made me appreciate this UPS was how it performed during a hurricane. Even with the power out, it kept my Wi‑Fi running for two full days straight, which was way beyond what I expected. Because of that, my neighbors were able to come over to my driveway, connect to the Wi‑Fi, and get in touch with their loved ones when phone service and power were unreliable. That turned a small backup box into something genuinely important for our whole street. It is compact, easy to set up, and perfect for the gear that matters most when the lights go out: your modem, router, or other low power networking devices. For the reliability it has shown and the peace of mind it gave me during a real emergency, this UPS has a special place in my setup and in my heart. Outstanding product, no question: 5 stars.

A must have item
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you value your electronic equipment this is a product you need. A power outage while your computer is on or your server, or modem and router can be a disaster. APC is a leader in this industry. This battery powered backup will allow you the time to properly shutdown your equipment while you wait for the power to come back on. This is a 6 receptacle unit. 4 receptacles have battery backup and surge protection. 2 only provide surge protection. This is a bit frustrating. I wish APC simply allowed all 6 receptacles to have battery backup and surge protection capability. Having said this, I still recommend this backup. The unit has a number of status indicators from an indicator showing power on to battery backup, low battery, sleep mode, overload protection and replace battery notices. Based on wattage of a particular device this backup can power devices from 22 minutes to more than 2 hours. Solidly constructed and backed by the APC name it should last you for a number of years.

Nice for price but there's a catch
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. An adequate product for the price point. However, even though it's marketed as having 2 surge receptacles they are spaced too close together and almost nothing can plug into both simultaneously. Not sure what they were thinking with that design choice. Otherwise It does what it's supposed to do. 4 stars for surge receptacles being too close together to be functional for most device plugs.

It works great! With a few minor setbacks
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've purchased many variations of this APC Back-UPS (450v, 650v, some with USB, some with no USB), and i am very pleased with this model. In fact, i purchased two of them! Pros: -Small form factor means it can be tucked away behind a computer monitor on top of a desk. I see this as a huge plus vs. the competitors which take a huge amount of space -Perfect for network devices (modem/router), and even for smaller desktops (I have mine connected to an iMac and a second external monitor) due to its generous number of back-up power plugs (some do a half/half distribution. this model actually gives you more back-up plugs than non-backup plugs) -Flat power plug, so the outlet can be against a flat object (like a bookshelf, etc.) - No annoying beeps like some other models Cons: -No removable battery, but like some have said, you can buy a new unit for almost the same cost as a new battery -This model does *not* have USB ports. I bought this particular model for my iMac, so it's not an issue for me. However, i have a similar APC model with USB ports which are used 24/7, so keep this in mind. That's about it for my cons... it's a very great, reliable model. Like i said, i purchased two of these and am using one with an iMac + external monitor, as well as a second on a laptop dock with two external monitors.

Expensive lesson learned: This is essential "insur
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this APC Back-UPS specifically to protect my new 48" OLED TV, and I have zero regrets. Is a battery backup on a TV a bit overkill? Yes, yes it is. But when you’ve invested in high-end display tech, you don't want to risk a power surge or a sudden brownout cutting its life short. In my case, that’s exactly how my previous TV met its end—a power flicker that I could have easily avoided. I have several APC units throughout my house because it’s a brand I’ve trusted for years. This unit is quiet, reliable, and gives me enough runtime to safely shut everything down. Honestly, Best Buy should be cross merchandising these right next to the premium TVs. Don’t wait until you’re replacing a dead screen to get one.
