Since apple can take forever to bill your account I like using the gift cards because they bill instantly. They also make great gifts!

Itunes have a slight delay from purchase to them charging your account... This also helps protect you from fraud or if you forgot the purchase, causing any fees...

A nice way to purchase from the Apple Store without having to put in a credit card. You can even use the camera on an IPAD to scan the code instead of typing it in.
