Back to basics.

I had been picking up off brand power adapters for a while and my phone battery overheated a few days ago and shut the phone down. Not sure what caused this, could have been a power surge or maybe the no name adapter. It seemed like a good time to return to basics. The Apple adapter is working great and behaving as expected. My phone lives.
