Great experience for 1st time Mac user!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Being the first to write a review on a product that just released is not only exciting but a little nerve wrecking. I'm not sure how much my review will compare to pro Mac users, but I'll do my best. I decided to purchase my very first Mac as I've been transitioning from Android to Apple and decided I needed to make the switch from PC to Mac to finish my collection. I was excited knowing that not only was I finally able to purchase the beautiful Retina 4K iMac, but that I was purchasing a brand new one that was released this month! Being completely new to Mac, set up from out of the box was very easy to follow and within minutes I was able to explore what Mac had to offered. Just to list a few. The display is so beautiful and clear and I love how I'm able to sync with all of my apple devices. I can also text from the Mac and finish the conversation elsewhere. Of course that is just a few of what this Mac offers. Goodbye PC, Hello Mac!!!!

Mac doesn’t disappoint
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My last Mac was a laptop and after 7 years I decided to go for some newer technology. I have an iPad Pro for on the go stuff so went with the iMac for the home. Sleek system. Unboxing was amazingly simple, Apple treats you like a king, the computer was super easy to set up, the keyboard and mouse are very sleek and easy to use.

Was a Windows/MS user now OS X/Mac
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, I've found both delight and annoyances with Windows and OS X in general. There are features in one I hate and love in the other, and vice versa. I use VirtualBox to run Windows within my Mac. So now getting that out of the way. Second, I am comparing this new edition iMac to my 2015 Macbook Pro Retina 13" model. Obviously, the 21" inch is larger but overall both screens are great to look at. Great viewing angles, images are clear and bright. Didn't see any lag, artifacts, pixellation, etc even when running a movie file from an old USB 2.0 external drive. Now the Cons: 1. SSD (on Macbook Pro) vs Standard "spinning platters" drive; there is definitely a lag in boot up. Whereas my older MBP boots pretty fast <5s, the iMac does take about 10-15 sec to boot up from a "cold start". 2. When running VirtualBox with Windows as the guest edition, I had issues playing the same video file where it lagged, stuttered and pixelation when trying to play in full screen mode. I have no issues when doing the same thing on my older MBP. My guess is that because the iMac does not have SSD drive, that my be the issue. 3. Sometimes when opening up programs it seems it takes a few seconds longer than my MBP. All these minor issues may be related more to this particular iMac using the standard SATA hard drive, rather than using SSD or the Fusion drive (combo SSD and "platter drive") but I can't be sure except with my unscientific opinion. However, when encoding a video to MP4, it was faster on the iMac compared to my older MBP with SSD. It's definitely a very capable computer and I have no regrets with the purchase. Apple should have just put Fusion drive in every new model, similar to what it did with SSDs on all Apple Laptops.

Why 5 Stars
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I rated this iMac 5 stars because it does everything I wanted in a desktop computer and more. First off, I'm back with Apple after a long windows journey. My first computer was the Mac SE30 and later moved on to the LC. I don't do anything special, just your normal, email , web browsing, bill paying, photos and home movies, etc. That is why I purchased the 21.5 in, 3.0ghz iMac. It handles everyday home computing very well! The 27 in monitor is very nice, just too big for what I wanted . In short, I love this Mac!!!

Super slow computer for $1400 without SSD
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hi, first I want to introduce myself. My name is Tigran. I have been doing professional photography for 10 years. So I'm always using Photoshop and Lightroom. But 2 years ago I decided to go to college again and become a software engineer. I know, it is a weird mix: programmer-photographer. So now on my computer, I added several new applications like IntelliJ Idea for Java, xCode for Swift and Clion for C++... I'm writing all these so you can understand that at least 10 years I'm doing heavy lifting staff on my computers and I know when computer works slow. A several months ago I bought a MacBook Pro 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 8 GB Ram, the basic model and I'm so happy with it. It is working perfectly. Two days ago I bought from BestBuy iMac Retina 4K Display 3.0GHz Intel Core i5 8 GB Ram and when I turned it on, installed all the updates, tried to install my apps, I understood that something is wrong with it. It was so slow. It was extremely slow. I did all the tests to run HDD, check its speed, the checked the processor speed, everything was fine. But I decided to exchange it, because when I was trying to use Photoshop or xCode it was taking like 2-3 minutes to just load the program. I went to BestBuy and described the situation to the computer person, he turned the iMac on and immediately says that yeah, it is definitely very slow. We spent 30 minutes to test it and he suggests me to exchange it, to get another one, because definitely, something was wrong with the one I bought. So I got another one. Exactly the same thing: very slow, taking a while to load simple files, to open simple programmes... I returned it. So the problem I assume is with the hard drive. In 2018 when even basic $300 dollars computers come with SSD but $1400 mac with 4k display doesn't have that. I'm suggesting everybody who will read this not to buy iMacs without SSD. Please don't waste your time on returning items.

Don't Pay Extra For 'Geek Squad Certified'
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this iMac as an Open Box item that was supposedly 'Geek Squad Certified' (which I paid more for than the non-Geek Squad Certified Open Box iMacs). When I plugged the computer in I received an error message. I called Apple Support and they informed me that Geek Squad had not properly erased and restored the computer. I spent almost 3 hours on the phone with Apple Support because the Geek Squad wasn't willing to come to my home and fix the problem without charging me $50 to fix a mistake they clearly made. I would never pay extra for anything that is 'Geek Squad Certified' as they don't stand behind their product/work.

Excellent for Open Box
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this computer for use at home for my graphic design classes and after graduation. I bought it Open Box Certified, and upon opening, I couldn't notice any signs of prior use. I feel like I just got a brand new computer for a $200 discount. It even came with the apple stickers, ha! Everything functions perfectly. The only thing that was not completely clear upon ordering was that the machine is the 2017 model, not the newest. But it runs all the same programs, is able to be upgraded to Mojave, and do everything the 2018 model can. I am VERY happy with my purchase, and would recommend the open box certified option to anyone!

One of the worst computers I've ever owned
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are a couple of good things about this computer. The design is beautiful and the display is gorgeous. Unfortunately, I can't say anything else positive about this computer. First, it's extremely slow even when working on basic tasks such as word documents, etc. But the real problem with this computer is the update to Mojave. You would think that a company that charges an arm and a leg would have their stuff together when releasing an update, but no. Neither chrome or photoshop work after updating. The computer itself crashes multiple times now, all after the update. Strangely enough, my 400 dollar windows pc that's four years old has never given me the problems my mac has. This will be my last apple computer I will ever purchase.

Don’t buy, spend it on a iPad pro
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I hate it. It’s slow AF, it has always been slow AF. I thought it was from migrating my old iMac over, but after wiping and reinstalling it’s still just as slow. I hate it, it is only a beautiful piece of useless art in my desk. My iPhone 12 Pro and iPad Pro are a gazillion times faster. Oh, and did I mention I hate it.

Don't Waste Your $$$!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was convinced by a few people I know (who are really into Apple products) to finally break down and get an iMac to see what all the rave is about. Wow, what a mistake! Right off the bat, I noticed that it's much slower than my old Acer laptop, which is about 8 years old now. By modern standards, this thing is really slow & I was unimpressed. (Strike One). Then I noticed that the bluetooth connection just randomly disconnects from my Bose wireless headphones, and often takes several times of me manually disconnecting and connecting again until it works (Strike Two). Finally, after about a year of owning this piece of garbage, it has started randomly completely shutting down in the middle of me doing something on the computer! (Strike Three). I've owned many many non-Apple computers before (Acer, Dell, GateWay, Asus, etc), and I've never had this many problems. Needless to say, I will never buy another Apple product! Get yourself a nice Acer or Dell. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck.

slow from day one
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.slow from day one. you would think this computer was used for years, given its less-than-mediocre speed. Things such as simple webpages take forever to load, as well as any commonly used mac app. do not buy

Worst computer I've ever used!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a terrible awfully slow piece of cr*p! I bought it in Dec 2017 and just recently started using it regularly. Won't even boot now. $1,400 paper weight. It sucks! Don't waste your money or time with this system!
