I've tried the cheaper cords and they always stop working or break. In the end, you end up paying more because they don't last. I have had no problems with any of the Apple charging cords.

LIghtning Cable

They have a higher error and failure rate than the old flat cable and wear out quicker. Overall they are a worse value than what Apple was using. Why Apple doesn't just use the mini USB like everyone else is one of the things I don't like about Apple. I would recommend it to anyone who needs it because the alternatives don't exist.
