The cable provided wouldn't work - the laptop is USB type C and the keyboard is lightning; therefore, I had to purchase this cable ... and it works.

Exactly what it should be

As much as the cost is higher than a generic cable, I've had enough finicky cables in my time to accept that genuine Apple cables are always the best.

I will say that it is a little stiff out of the box. You may want to work it a bit to get the "curl" out of it. After that, it definitely works as intended.
