As the summary says, it's a Thunderbolt cable. If you use or want to use Thunderbolt peripherals with older Macs/PCs you'll need this. There may be cheaper cables out there (but really not by much) but I choose the Apple branded because I feel they're more trustworthy. They always have been. Note this cable is only a foot and a half. I found this useful since the peripherals I'm using sit not that far away and cuts down on cable clutter. This cable is Thunderbolt 1 and 2 compatible, NOT Thunderbolt 3 (or USB-C). Connecting a Thunderbolt dock to an older MacBook will add USB 3 connectivity (and near USB 3 speeds). These docks cost more than newer Thunderbolt 3 offerings but it's a way to get more out of an aging Mac. These cables are perfect for such a set up. My advice is to consider a new MacBook but if you want to pay less now then this cable and older Thunderbolt peripherals will give more life to your Mac.

Purchased a new iMac computer and needed to move the data from my old iMac to the new one. Connected the Apple Thunderbolt Cable to both computers and quickly transferred the data to the new iMac.

Bought this additional cord to daisy chain some thunderbolt peripherals, apples does it again. No complaints. Great construction and durability. It would be nice if a smaller length was available but not a huge deal.

This cable is well constructed and works as advertised.

I bought this to transfer over 500GB of data from my old MacBook to my new MacBook pro. This cable did the trick and was much more effective than using an external hard drive or cloud services.

It is an Apple product so what more needs to be said . I like the length and the color surprises everyone in black , not the usual Apple white . I wish they made more in black for a choice .

Purchase this to connect my 2011 iMac to the new 2017 version using a thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter...works as expected and I can load and access my iMac 2011 from the 2017 machine.

Does what you expect it to do but Apple charges too much for these types of accessories.

This one is kinda a no brainer but the best thunderbolt cable is made by Apple. Don't fall for cheap excuses on the internet because they just may not work right. These are also sturdy and I use mine as part of a dock to hold up my iPhone and it works great. Only ding is the price. But it's worth it.

Purchased this so that I can connect my new MacBook Pro to the 2011 iMac that I have to use as monitor. Works great, however, 1.6' is a bit too short.
