Both must be purchased separately. Yet there is no price break compared to earlier versions that did include these items.

Really Apple?!

The issue is that it doesn't come with a cable -- that has to be purchased separately. Apple is getting ridiculous with all the different parts one needs to purchase to use their stuff...upteen different adpaters, cables, dongles, etc.
