This review is based on feedback from someone whose technology is overwhelmingly through Apple. The functionality is probably the best feature here. Right out of the box, they just work seamlessly. Exactly the same as AirPods, or other Apply headphones, these just plain work. In terms of sound, it's pretty good. Before these, I had Bose QC-35II and those were good. I would say these are on par with those, maybe a bit better. The Active Noise Cancelling feature works pretty good too. Better than my Bose did for sure. As a frequent flyer, I don't fly without them and the Apple AirPods Max are definitely an improvement. Comfort - they are pretty heavy for headphones, no doubt about it. However, they are still pretty comfy, even on long flights of 3 hours or more. In spite of some initial concerns, after giving them a try now on several flights, I think these are more comfortable than the Bose. Battery life seems to be fine. No issues there.

I was very skeptical about these headphones because of the price point. I originally started with the Beats Studio 3 and I had those for a few years but I felt like and upgrade could be fun. I love these headphones so much. The one difference I noticed between the AirPods and my beats was they even though they are both advertised as over the ear headphones but the AirPods are true over the ear head phones. They fit around my entire ear which makes them so comfortable especially if you have a few ear piercings. They are probably the most comfortable pair of headphone I have tried on, especially if you are wearing them for extended periods of time. My last thing I love is how seamlessly the headphones connect from my phone to my iPad and then to my Mac. That is probably one of my favorite things about these headphones that makes them better than the beats. Even thought I love these headphones I do have to say you don’t really NEED these. If you can afford them then of course I recommend them but you don’t need to break the bank for these.

The Apple AirPods Max are a triumph in both design and performance. Their luxurious build and unparalleled comfort, thanks to the memory foam cushions and well-distributed weight, make them a pleasure to wear for hours on end. Sound quality is exceptional, delivering rich, immersive audio with crisp highs, detailed mids, and deep bass. The Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) effectively silences external noise, allowing for a truly immersive listening experience. Additionally, the spatial audio with dynamic head tracking offers a theater-like experience, bringing a new level of realism to movies and music. In summary, the AirPods Max are a premium choice for anyone seeking top-tier sound quality, comfort, and innovative features. They're a significant investment, but for the quality and experience, they're worth it.

    Great Sound, But Comfort Falls

I purchased two sets of Apple AirPods Max headphones—one for myself and one for my spouse—after trying them out at Best Buy and being blown away by the sound quality. We’ve owned premium headphones before (I have Bose QuietComfort from 2019, and my spouse has JBL), but we were looking for something with more bass, and the AirPods Max delivered on that front. Additionally, the ability to pair what I’m listening to with my spouse’s headphones was a great feature. However, after using them for walking, traveling and other daily activities, we found them to be incredibly uncomfortable. While the sound quality and noise canceling are fantastic, the headphones are heavy and don’t stay secure—if you bend down, they can easily fall off. Wearing them for extended periods, like during a flight, caused me to develop headaches and tension around my head. I tried to adjust to them, but the discomfort only grew with time. The earpads are okay, but not as comfortable as my older Bose headphones, which are lighter and can be worn all day without issue. I even replaced the ear cushions on my Bose to extend their life, and they remain my go-to headphones for comfort and usability. While the AirPods Max have some standout features and a sleek, aesthetic design, they fall short when it comes to practicality and long-term wear. Ultimately, I returned the AirPods Max and purchased Sony headphones for my spouse. The Sonys offer the bass we were looking for, along with better comfort. I still appreciate Apple’s regular AirPods for walking and exercising, but the AirPods Max just aren’t worth the high price tag if they can’t deliver on comfort. Overall, the AirPods Max have exceptional sound and noise-canceling technology, but the weight and discomfort make them impractical for everyday or extended use. Apple still has a way to go in designing a product that balances form, function, and comfort. For now, I’ll stick with my trusty Bose headphones.

Great pair of headphones. I wouldn't pay the full $550 for it by any means, but if you come across these on sale or see it discounted more elsewhere, remember you can have Best Buy price match these headphones -- it's what I did. Perfect if you're in the apple ecosystem - switching between devices is even more seamless than with my AirPods Pro. Sound quality is excellent. Headphones are very comfortable. If they don't feel right on your head or too tight on first wear, don't forget to lengthen the band at the parts that attach to the cups. It may not seem like you can lengthen the headset, but you can. Noise cancellation is very, very good. The case it comes with is very, very stupid due to the fact it's required to put the headphones into in order for them to go into sleep mode and not drain battery faster. It's my only con for these headphones. Keep in mind, you can purchase accessories online that can put these headphones to sleep that are better than the dumb case they come with. Still, it would be nice if Apple provided a way to put these into sleep mode with the buttons.

I've owned my pair of Airpods Max from the day they came out and have been extremely pleased throughout my time owning them. Sound quality is better than any other wireless headphones I've tried and used including Sony XM5s and Bose's Quietcomforts. Because of the adaptive EQ feature, these headphones adjust the sound signature to suit whatever genre of music you listen to, making them the most versatile over ear headphones I've used. The noise cancelling is also amazing, cancelling out everything that I've thrown at it while not causing any discomfort or headaches with extended use. The transparency mode is unmatched; it literally sounds like I'm not using headphones when it's on and can have a complete conversation with people while listening to music. With that all being said, I used to wear my pair everyday for hours at a time, treating it more like an everyday accessory than a casual pair of headphones and as a result the fabric portion of the headband has deflated to the point that the steel bars of the headband has begun to press uncomfortably against my head when using it for longer than 30 minutes. The issue began about a year and a half after owning and using them religiously. I was able to have the headband replaced free of charge due to having Applecare+, however, the issue happened again after another year or so. Results may vary depending on how often you use them and how long you use them for at a time, but it is something to keep in mind should you decide to make these your daily driver headphones. Long term gripes aside, these are the best wireless headphones that I can recommend.

Really good wireless earphone. Very easy to use and set up with apple products. If you are an android owner I would suggest either the Bose QC ultra or the Sony xm4 or xm5. Not that these won’t work but you will be missing out on some features (like Spatial Audio) so, I would recommend the others I mentioned. I would also look for a sale not full msrp, they are worth the price but I see a new version coming soon. So on sale I would highly recommend , anything under 500 is good. Got mine for 449, but then changed colors and paid another 30. It was worth it to me. These are very good for music, with neutral sound, but very good. For movies these are amazing! The spatial audio is apple magic. I use mine mainly for movie and shows and these work flawlessly with Atmos and Spatial Audio programming. Very comfortable as well.

The AirPods Max deliver incredible sound quality with deep bass, clear mids, and crisp highs. Noise cancellation is top-tier, and the build feels extremely premium and comfortable for long sessions. Worth the investment if you want the best in wireless audio.

If you’ve got $500 extra laying around I’d say go for it. The main draw for me was the build quality and the fact that I’m already so deep in the Apple ecosystem so it didn’t take much to convince myself to take the leap. If you aren’t in the ecosystem already, I’d say maybe try these and some other headphone out to see if you want to spend the extra $100 for a similar product. I came from the Bose QC 35II and the things the AirPods do better are 1.) Noise cancellation - in the QC35’s there’s a very quiet hiss that comes with its noise cancellation, the AirPods Max have little to no hiss 2.) Build quality- I don’t have to explain this one, the construction feels solid as it’s all metal and has a very premium feel. Very solid And 3.) Transparency mode - Transparency mode feels like you aren’t even wearing headphones. It sounds better than not wearing them. By far the best transparency mode I’ve ever had. If you do buy these, use the app “mimi” to take the hearing test and it personalize a new for yourself and the sound quality will be even more amazing

Excellent sound! Everything that you would come to expect from a premium apple product. Bass is not overpowering and actually adds to the crisp sound experience. Very easy to pair with apple device and also to switch devices. I have an iMac, iPad, and iPhone and am able to connect to all 3 seamlessly. to sure how it would work on non-apple devices but it is bluetooth so I am sure connectivity would not be an issue. The noise cancellation is awesome and rivals that of the BOSE headsets which actually do this the best in my opinion. The transparency mode works exceptionally well and the spatial sound is INCREDIBLE! Just like watching a movie in the theatre when watching movies and video on iPhone, iPad, or computer. Another really cool feature is that you can connect with your Apple TV to allow for a personal viewing experience that does not disturb any one else in case you're watching TV late at night. Aesthetically these things are very nice! Mesh ear cups are comfortable, though after long periods they do get a little warm. Ear cups can be replaced as well after wear, though for $60. The headset is a bit heavy due to the aluminum, but doesn't really bother me much when wearing them. One thing I would change is the case. For a $550 headset you would think that it would warrant some type of hard shell case, but you have to get that after market. Also battery lasts a while, but does drain if not placed in case, since that is the only way they turn completely off. Other than those small things I think these are an exceptional purchase and am enjoying them immensely!

These headphones are worth the price! I was very pleasantly surprised with the sound quality and the overall build of the headphones. In my opinion they’re not as heavy as other reviewers said that they were and I found them to be very comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. I really like the fact that you can listen to them while they’re charging, major plus in my book. Prior to the AirPods Max I was using one of the Sony XM1000 models that doesn’t allow you to do so. These are definitely big headphones, so if you’re looking for something compact, these aren’t for you. Another cool feature is “Spatial Audio”. I cued up the final episode of “The Falcon and Winter Soldier” and was blown away! I was in the midst of the action! I’m not a person who has super high standards when it comes to cases for my headphones so I don’t mind the silly case Apple provides, nor do I care that they never truly turn off. The trade off you get is being able to charge your AirPods max for 5 minutes and get 1.5 hours of listening time. There are other gripes that I’ve seen reviewers have but I’m not going to die on any of those hills. These are a very nice pair of headphones and I’m glad I bought them.
