You can her minute sounds like people taking in the distance. But when the music plays or you pick up a phone call that is all you hear. The clarity is in match and the music sound so smooth you hear the lyrics so clearly

Amazing AirPods

I returned them and went with these. These AirPods have 3 different tips and they fit perfect, I don’t have to worry about them falling out while biking. Excellent sound quality and the noise cancellation is also nice and you can activate it, whenever you want. Worth the extra couple of dollars.

worth the price

Mine didn't seem to work correctly and when I compared it to my wife's, I realize mine was defective. I made a quick exchange and the new ones work quite well. I don't expect them to work as well as over the ear, noise cancelling headphones but they work well enough. I am able to heart the sound clearly as the AirPods lower the jet engine sounds. The sound quality is excellent.
