Better than first gen but with more annoyances

Sound quality is about the same, maybe slightly better. I don’t like the adaptive noise cancelling you can’t turn off. There is a dedicated adaptive noise canceling mode, but even in the normal noise cancelling mode it still adjusts the level of noise cancelling based on what it thinks is right. Also, the grills for the transparency/call microphones get full very easily and you need to clean them out with tape or the transparency gets awful. First gens did not have either of these issues.
