They're extremely convenient if you are a frequent traveler, and provide a level of comfort, knowing that you will have a charge for your headphones wherever you are! Just charge on your home charger included in the original purchase, and listen away, knowing you have a spare charge at your side. It's not an absolute necessity to have, but if you can spare the extra money, you might as well purchase for the convenience.

And they last a long time before needing recharging. Expensive, of course. What else do you expept from Apple?
