Marketing Hype?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Switched from a Samsung Note 2 to this iPhone 6s Plus 64 GB. This is perhaps the worst purchase that I have made in my lifetime. It is my first Apple phone and I can't stand it - it competes nicely with Microsoft's Paper Clip "Clippy". I think Apple isn't as much a technology company but more of marketing company, with the very best marketing persons. After 3 months I hate this phone so much that I've switched back to my old Note 2 and am SO HAPPY - except that I spent $849 + $49 + tax on the Apple. I can't seem to sell it for even $600 (insert tears here). I thought Apple would be so slick, and so nice but I was so dead wrong. Here are 3 reasons I can't stand the phone (and perhaps other Apples too): [1] Consider this. You are driving down the road. Locations services are off - well because that uses battery and you really only need this feature for navigation, maybe TripAdvisor and a couple of other things. The rest of the time the phone just reports spy information to headquarters. Now, you're hungry so you press the magic button and say "Call Joe Joe's Pizza in Springfield Missouri". Siri quickly says to you "I can help you find restaurants if you turn on Location Services. Go to Location Services Settings and turn it on. Then scroll to 'Siri & Dictation' and allow location access". Well so much for (near) hands free. Now my Note 2 just checks the internet, figures out the number and calls. This won't work on Apple. Isn't this the whole point of Siri? [2] I spent a considerable amount of time ripping my CD collection to MP3s - you know, the defacto standard for compressed music. It took so long but its done and I am so happy - well, I thought I was. I was going to install those MP3s to the best MP3 player, right? No. You cannot simply plug in your Apple to a USB port on your computer and use a file management tool to copy them over - this would be too simple - not allowed by Apple. You have to use iTunes (a commercial without the TV). Well, I don't have an Apple or Windows based computer. I use Linux which frankly, is so good. iTunes isn't supported in Linux. So what do I do? I dusted off the Note 2, plugged it into the USB port of the Linux PC through a cable and used the file manager to copy MP3s to seemingly arbitrary directories. Well, of course, the music player in the Note 2 found every MP3 and it works perfectly. And it sounds great... [3] I am a power user (in training) so I typically will dig deep into features and try every combination of things. You'll find that you can 'brick' the iPhone if you play with it too much. Most recently I was playing with the zoom and text size features and couldn't get out of a certain mode. I had to do a full reboot to do this. Very disappointing... Just to beat a dead horse a bit more, I have some real complaints on the organization of the Settings menus - there are many organizational problems. One such example is that you can turn on the personal hotspot and give it a password. The SSID defaults to iPhone - great! Now how do you suppose that you change the SSID? Simple (not really), you just go to Settings / General / About / Name (that was only about 10 minutes of my life trying to figure it out). This is so obvious on the Android - why not Apple? I can go all day on complaints of this phone but I'll stop here. No more Apples for me... ever! If I ever sell this stupid thing, I am buying a Note 5. I'm sure it isn't perfect but it isn't dumb either. I'm not an Android lover necessarily but after all of these generations of Apple, I cannot see what all the hype is about. Amber Settings
