    Apple has lost its touch.

Get Apple care AND get insurance if you must have this thing. I have to say, I'm gentle on devices because I don't typically use them more than a year then I resell them and upgrade. I've been using iPhones for years specifically because they hold their value so well. This XS and the X before it have been the worst phones I've owned and I've had every iPhone since the 4S. They're terrible. I have had no end of problems with this device, and Apple has replaced it twice in 7 months and jerked my wife around with her repairs for almost 3 months. last year on a camping trip it would't connect, then when shut down wouldn't come on for a while before getting stuck in a boot loop. Apple support sent me to the store and replaced it, only to have the wifi and bluetooth quit working a few months later. They replaced it again. Meanwhile, my wife's phone quit connecting to cellular. Rather than replace hers Apple had her send it in for repairs 4 times, replacing parts each time until it was essentially a new phone. And after all that, mine just quit working with bluetooth and wifi again. I have a Samsung phone I use for work but that's become my daily driver. It's also opened my eyes to just how bad Apple's gotten with app crashes, slow downloads from the app store, apps just.. not working or freezing, the horrible password manager integration (this is kind of a tangent, but since I can't use safari on Windows and I need Windows for work I have to use dashlane to manage passwords. On Android it's pretty painless and just requires a few settings to be tweaked and from there, regardless what you want to log into, tap tap, logged in. On iOS the setup is easy but every time I try to log in it's this series of up to 5 or 6 screens and regardless if I'm using keychain or dashlane, it seems to fail to actually input the password on the first attempt every single time. The photos are on par with the Galaxy and, not so good compared to the Pixel 2XL I had before it but the photo controls are way behind. I can get actual DSLR like controls on Android. And the photos don't seem to sync properly anyway on iOS so I started using google photos on iOS anyway. Really the only reason I've hung on to the XS has been the apple watch. There's just nothing on par with it in terms of day-to-day payments, exercise, alerts etc. You can't store spotify songs locally on the Apple watch because... Apple so I'm hoping for a better Android alternative soon. And that leads into the next point The anti-competitive app store policies have really started to affect day-to-day use. It's an inconvenience not to be able to download spotify playlists to the apple watch. It's a major headache to have apps you use daily taken down because Apple has a worse version that competes with the app directly. Finally, after all that I've stuck with iOS but this is the deal-breaker for me. FIND MY IPHONE DOES NOT WORK. The terrible interface is a huge issue. Having to go home and get your other apple device or a computer because find my iphone won't run in a browser on your friend's android is a travesty but in addition to that, it simply doesn't work. I set it to lost mode and erased the device. It confirmed that that had been completed but it just never actually did that. Some guy happened to find the phone and when he did, it was still just as it had been left. Completely open and ready to go, full cell connection. Nothing had been deleted. The lock screen had not popped up showing contact info to return it. The phone had not been locked out beyond the regular passcode. So much is easier, faster, more reliable and better implemented on Android now. It frustrates me just to find apps on iOS anymore. After like 9 iphone models over the years, this is the last.

Best phone ever...except for 1 thing

I got this phone and let me tell you as someone who used Android for more than half a decade...this is the best phone ever except for 1 thing. So every feature you can think of---it is probably the best in it....now lets get to that 1 thing CALL QUALITY. I have this phone and I talk to people on it, and I get told by people I can not hear you-you are cutting out...At first I thought I was imagining it--then more people started saying it. Then I tried to tweak all kinds of setting to make it better--but nothing I did made it really better. The issue is the worst in places where signal strength is low--especially in apartments and places like that. BUT THEN THE STORY GETS BETTER. I thought it was just me or maybe I got a defective unit...then I searched online and I put in Iphone XS people can not hear me..and Iphone people can not hear me...I found what looks like oceans of online forums of people who have Iphone saying people say I can not hear you well. I never had this problem with the Samsung phones....now I repeat...This is the best phone ever to me. and 2--I am still keeping the phone and would not consider going anywhere else right now. This is not always a problem only sometimes and you can turn on speaker phone and do a few things that help to deal with this issue. But when you pay 1000$ for a phone and people say I can't hear you----that is very sad. I wish it was just me--but go online and serach Iphone people say they can not hear me. If anyone knows more about this topic let me know. I tried to turn off noise cancellation and do all kids of settings tweaks but problem never fully went away.

    Extremely poor reception

My wife and I each bought a new XS She had a 8Plus and I had a 7plus which were working well. We traded because we liked the size of the new XS. the clarity is excellent, the feel is excellent, and we like the face ID. All is well EXCEPT the reception of a cell signal is terrible. They both drop calls, miss texts, fail to connect to LTE and have wi-fi connection problems. It's a known problem with Apple and until they fix it stay away.

    Poor Screen Quality

Very disappointed in quality of new Iphone XS screen. I had the Iphone 6 since 2014 and have not had one scratch on the screen. I do have a case protector but not a screen protector. I have carried this phone in my pocket with multiple types of metal objects (ie keys) in the same pocket and have never gotten a scratch on the screen of the Iphone 6. On Feb 28, 2019 my iphone 6 stopped working so I went into Best Buy and purchased an Iphone XS w/ 256GB storage. That very day, with me doing nothing different than before, put my new in my pocket with my keys and put a 3 inch scratch across the surface. I called apple, since the phone was only hours old, and set up an appointment with a person inside the apple store (the only thing they would do over the phone). The person in the apple store told me that the screen is different and now scratches much easier, wish I would have known that. Since my phone is now only 4 days old the apple rep directed me to Best Buy for assistance. My thoughts were, Best Buy is an ethical company with a great return policy and they stand behind the products they sell. This is the reason I still shop there and not online. I go to Best Buy, their return policy is 14 days on phones and online they state that they will do what ever it takes if a customer is dissatisfied (return, repair, or replace) with their purchase to make them satisfied. Well don't believe what you read because that is not true. All I wanted was to exchange my phone with another and the manager at Best Buy said once a product leaves the store Best Buy are no longer responsible for the quality of said product. To be able to become a satisfied customer you must return the product as if it were brand new. All around poor experience from both companies that no longer value the customer. Please do your due diligence if you would like a phone to last longer than a day.

    Connective issues

The phone is great except that it either has slow or no connection. Apps constantly open to the no connection screen. I’m on Verizon and have never experienced this before. I’m putting my SIM card back in my pixel 2. I thought I was paying for 40 percent better connection speeds, instead this is by far the slowest connection on any phone I’ve used in years. Other than waiting a minute for websites to download, hello 2009, it’s a beautiful piece of tech.

    Best Buy's Unwillingness to Bend

    Posted .

This is abbreviated version of my experience, but the out come is the same. Let me start by saying that despite Apple's high quality, this phone is not for me. I had an iPhone 8 Plus and I wish I would have kept it, instead of upgrading. I do not like the way the phone fits in my hand compared to my old one. Nor do I like the Face ID. (I've gone back to using a 4 digit code) Unfortunately I figured all of this out after Best Buys 14 day return policy had expired; even though I was laid up in bed with a back injury the last 3 days of that window. This is also despite the fact that there is an extended holiday return policy one almost everything else in the store. Verizon has told me that had I purchased from them, their holiday return policy would apply and they would take it back. I have spoken to both Best Buy store management and corporate customer service with no resolution other than "you're out of the return policy window". I went into this experience hoping that Best Buy could give me better service than Verizon. Boy they proved me wrong!
