Amazing Phone with only one Drawback

The iPhone XS is essentailly the PERFECTED iPhone X. It’s display is beautiful. It’s bright (though I wish it was brighter) very vivid, bold, and sharp. The camera is outstanding and as usual, iOS is very smooth. The A12 chip dishes out almost unbeatable performance. It also packs a 5.8 inch screen (larger than the 5.5 inch of the plus model iPhones) into a much smaller body. If the XS Max is too big for you, this phone is still very excellent. It also starts out at only 64gb of storage. For me, 64 gigabytes is more than enough, but for other users they may need to get the 256 or 512gb version. Pros: -Amazing Screen -Very Fast -Good Form Factor -Beautiful Camera -Gold finish is GORGEOUS -Gigabit-class LTE is fast Cons: -Battery life is not amazing -Expensive -Screen is not incredibly bright (hard to see outdoors) Summary: Overall, the iPhone XS is an exceptional phone. If you are someone who needs more battery life I would advise getting the Apple XS battery case. But for the average user, I think this will easily get you through the day. The camera provides great color accuracy and almost professional-quality video and beautiful photos. Almost nothing can make this phone stutter, and iOS is very smooth. Is it worth it over the XR? In my opinion yes. The XR is $250 cheaper with the same main camera, same chip, and slightly larger scree, but it has many drawbacks. I think the OLED display, telephoto lens, gigabit-class LTE, pretty stainless steel bands, and IP68 water resistance over the IP67 of the XR are worth it. But know that if you can’t afford that extra $250, the XR is still a great phone with a beautiful LCD display. Below are some photos I took with the XS.

To preface my review, I upgraded from an iphone 6. Therefore, this phone has been an eye opener! I can’t get over how fast everything works. Toggling between home screens, and between apps is smooth and unbelievably fast. The battery lasts way longer than I expected (it’s 9pm and at 85%, with me using it through the day). The OLED screen is super bright, even when I have it on about 1/5 brightness, and the colors so rich. And I really like that although the screen itself is a lot bigger than its predecessors (the 6, 7, 8), the phone is almost the same size. I’ve never wanted to go with one of the massive “Plus” phones just to have a bigger screen, and the full screen/no home button/minimum bevel accomplishes this. Also, despite what other have said, I don’t think the notch is a problem at all. As for some other specific features: Face ID—spot on. This will recognize my face ALWAYS, even with glasses on. It even reads my face in the dark with nothing on but the backlight of the phone (e.g. if I want to check the time or something in the middle of the night). And to see if I could throw it off, I have had a few people try to open it, which it wouldn’t do (excellent). It won’t even unlock with eyes closed (I tried!) Camera—hard to compare to iphone 6, as this is light years ahead. Loving the 2x lens and portrait modes. The ability to edit portrait mode photos after the fact, and change f-stops to control the bokeh is mind- boggling for a phone. Selfies still seem a little grainy, but only when all the way zoomed in, but the rear facing camera is taking fantastic photos. Great low light capabilities, and video is SO much improved. Very clear shots. Finally (I could go on and on), the lack of home button— I know there are many critics of this, but let me tell you, use it for a day, and you don’t even notice. I wasn’t a huge fan of the fingerprint ID (I have notoriously difficult-to-read fingerprints so it didn’t always work anyways), and the ability to just swipe up to go back to home is just as easy. You can also adjust your accessibility settings to create a “virtual home button” if you really want, but I don’t see it as necessary. Bottom line: it is super expensive, but I’m finding that this is worth the upgrade.

Face ID is the worst part of this phone and it ruins the whole experience. There are so many times that fingerprint ID worked and Face ID doesn’t that the overall experience is just significantly less than the 8 was. The Wow of the larger screen/small bezels is short lived once you find out how many different odd ways you have to deal with not having a fingerprint reading Home button. At work I would get a notification on my 8, touch the home button and it was great. Now I get the notification and either have to pick the phone up or hit the screen until the passcode screen appears. With Touch ID I almost never had to enter the passcode and now I have to enter it all day long. If that weren’t annoying enough so many Landscape only apps have to have a white bar across the bottom of the screen to remind you that the only way Home is to swipe that edge. It just seems like they wanted to get rid of the Home button soooo badly that they were forced to make it work. Face ID does work—it’s as good as Windows Hello on my laptop—but it just can’t replace the Home button or Touch ID. It should be an addition to not replacement for. On the plus side—the screen looks great. Would have been great in an 8 with the new processor. Another “plus” is that my cracked back glass is not flaking apart. Gorilla Glass need gorilla glue.

My husband has always used the phone his company provided for him and it’s happened to be Android. But, for Father’s Day, I bought him this Apple - iPhone XS 64GB - Space Gray and he’s getting used to it slowly but surely. He is not super technologically geared, so, whenever he was having an issue with his Android, it would take me a minute to figure out since I’m not as familiar with Android. Now, with his new iPhone, I can actually help him troubleshoot more quickly since I use the same model phone. I recently purchased this same model for myself and was upgrading from an Apple iPhone 6 Plus. I have had to learn several news ways to do things. Like, how to shut down; how to take a screen shot; and how to close out of apps. I’m thankful that Apple is so intuitive!

It's an iPhone. It's going to have amazing build quality, an amazing screen, Apple quality iOS, tons of features and a top quality camera. It's amazing! It is almost identical to the iPhone X of 2017, but there are a few very subtle differences. The main difference in this years model, the XS has the new A12 processor that does some insane processing that is basically what a desktop computer could do a few years back (and then some)... but this is in a phone. Pretty crazy! These phones are also pretty expensive. If this phone wasn't going to be covered by my job, I wouldn't have gotten one. I'd rather spend my money on a full size laptop. But it is what it is. An Apple product. So... good job Apple.

I held on to my iPhone 6s as long as I could but the battery life was beginning to fade quickly so I finally decided to upgrade to the Xs. This phone is so fun and easy to use! I thought not having a home button would make it harder to control but everything is very smooth and easily accessible. The facial recognition is great and very smart, the camera is clear and takes great pictures, and the speaker has nice volume and great quality sound. The phone is also more durable than any other phone I’ve had and I finally feel comfortable using a light case with no screen protector instead of an otter box. I also love how long the battery lasts! I can use my phone all day long and still have about 30-40% at the end of the day.

While my iPhone 8S was only 18 months old when I purchased this, the XS just feels leaps and bounds ahead of it. Not having a home button was probably the hardest adjustment, but (while it still freaks me out a little) the facial recognition unlock works really well. The OLED screen is vastly superior to my previous phone, and the camera... particularly in Portrait Mode... creates stunning images I would never have expected from a phone. Stepped down from 256GB because so much of my "stuff" is on the cloud now, I just didn't see the benefit for a larger hard drive. I'm happy with this phone, and fully expect it to carry me through a full 2-year agreement. (I hardly ever keep a phone that long)

I should have never left Apple for Samsung. After years of Android, the whole Note and S Pen thing really looses it's allure and is more of a novelty. I was quickly reminded how well Apple streamlines all the aspects of the phone, apps, contacts, settings, email, etc. I can go on. The battery life is great. I left the house at 4am yesterday, came back at 6pm, still had 36% left. The glass backing feels sturdy, and the processor is really fast, especially noticeable on my Arlo app, which lagged on my Note 8.

I upgraded to this phone after having the iPhone 6s for about 3 years. I was very hesitant at first because I wasn’t sure if I could get used to not having a home button. As soon as I brought the phone home, I adapted to it so quick. The face recognition is an awesome feature and makes signing into most accounts way easier than using the finger print, especially when it comes to making purchases on iTunes. I also love the fact that I can charge my phone at night and it lasts me all day without having to plug it in again. This phone was definitely worth the money.

I purchased the Apple iPhone XS for my daughter to replace her iPhone 5. She and her husband have invested themselves in Apple products. I personally do not like Apple because of thier proprietary systems and lack of interoperability with android or Microsoft products. I also believe that Apple charges way too much for their proprietary products. However, as far as the iPhone XS goes, it is a really nice smartphone, like most all Apple products are. My daughter likes her new iPhone XS and its interoperability with all of her and her husband's Apple products.

Previous phone was a 6S so loving that the XS is so much faster! The only thing I don’t like is face recognition. The thumbprint worked so much better. Face recognition is about 50% at best. I’ve deleted and added my face multiple times but nothing seems to improve its efficacy. I’ve had to change my passwords on bank and credit cards multiple times due to too many attempts to sign on - super frustrating!! I wish they would bring back the thumbprint !

I have used iPhone 5s and 6. This new Xs is simply amazing. I wanted a larger screen , but not a lager phone. This one is perfect. The entire front is screen, but it’s the same size as my 6. The new iOS 12 is an outstanding operating system as well. The new cameras on this phone are light years ahead of the competition. I love the convinience of Apple tech keeping my iPads and iMac computers up to date. I highly recommend this new phone. The price is well worth it.

The screen and sound are incredible with the XS. I haven’t put all the new features to use such as the Animoji’s, but it’s a nice upgrade and I enjoy the larger screen. I am disappointed the screen won’t rotate for Google Maps the way it did on the 6 (handy when the phone is charging in the car). It is an expensive phone. Some friends had congratulated me on my accomplishments in fantasy football this season. Otherwise, I probably would not have made the purchase.

My only regret would be that I did not get the XS Max (I couldn’t justify the extra $100). While the screen of the XS is bigger than that of a Plus, the screen is actually just longer and narrower, therefore when playing certain apps in landscape mode, the screen is even smaller than the Plus because there is a black border on the bottom of the screen to show the swipe up to home gesture. Other than that, the camera is great and the gestures make me not miss the home button at all.

After much reviewing and researching, I decided to upgrade to the iPhone XS. The upgraded camera was a big factor. I prefer a smaller phone, so chose the XS vs. the Max. So far, this has been a great experience. Staff at my nearest Best Buy went above and beyond to set up and transfer all of my data and apps - I couldn't be happier with my new purchase. Well, unless it had been cheaper! It's quite an investment these days.

My wife and I each bought a new XS She had a 8Plus and I had a 7plus which were working well. We traded because we liked the size of the new XS. the clarity is excellent, the feel is excellent, and we like the face ID. All is well EXCEPT the reception of a cell signal is terrible. They both drop calls, miss texts, fail to connect to LTE and have wi-fi connection problems. It's a known problem with Apple and until they fix it stay away.

Got me a new Iphone XS and somehow my life has not changed radically as a result. It's a phone, just like my last one and the one before that and the one before that. The camera is definitely better, pretty top notch in that regard, the size is pretty compact and it's got some new and totally unnecessary gimmicks. Other than that it does what you'd expect. Seems to burn through battery charge pretty quick. If you need a phone and want an apple, this is probably your phone.

I bought this 100% because of the portrait mode photo capability. I was very happy with my 7, but I’m expecting another grandchild and I wanted a better camera. I don’t like that it is a little bigger (just a few millimeters). I had to buy a new case, and the swipe features are a longer reach for my short hand. I am not crazy about photo recognition and the loss of the home button. And VERY EXPENSIVE

I was in desperate need of a new phone, due to the fact that my battery on my IPhone 6 was dropping from 100% to 35% the minute I started using anything on it. I was thinking of switching to another manufacturer but I like Apple products. I found the XS was constructed of a harder metal, improved photography with dual lenses and a better battery. I am pleased with my upgraded purchase and was happy to stay with a product I like.

I always loved Apple for its clean and slick looks. Upgrading from the iPhone 7 Plus to this phone was a great move for me. The specs overall are better and what really made me switch was the Dual SIM. Traveling a lot and now being able to use one phone and add in an EU sim will really make everything more convenient. I’m still getting used to the no home button and facial recognition, but overall I’m happy with the upgrade.
