Unlike the old ipod this one produces sound without a head set. It works great in the car. Now I can listen to audio books in the car, when I'm really into one I don't have to wait until I can get hooked back up with a head set. Serves my purpose perfectly. The additions such at the flashlight, camera witch I have not used and other new functions are great, just don't know how to use them
