I wish I was advised to purchase a lightning cable because the adapter only adds about 1 inch to the cable which is located in the glove box. I still need to purchase a longer cable.

If you need an adapter from 30 to 8 pin for newer Apple products, you might as well pony up the $30 for the genuine article. Apple finds a way to make all other manufacturers products useless with every software update.
