It's a good keyboard. It's Apple, but...

I just upgraded my iPad from my 2nd generation to the 4th gen. I decided to go with this keyboard for the sleek look, trackpad, and magnetic feature.
I would have given the keyboard 5 stars but while beautiful and sleek I think apple could have done a little more with it. Here are just a few things that might help someone else make a decision about his product.
I travel internationally a lot and thought it would be great to have a case/keyboard in one but it's a little bit heavy. I also have a 15" MacBook Pro...so my laptop, iPad & magic keyboard and a couple of portable hard drives inside a relatively light backpack and I've almost reach my international carryon limit of 7 kilos/15lbs.
The Magic keyboard is also not very flexible. What you see in the product photo is about the extent of it's flexible.
Lastly, I had a Logitech keyboard case with my previous iPad which did not have the magnetic/charging feature or trackpad but it had a few extra buttons that I wish were include on this keyboard...iPad backlight dimmer (darker/brighter), keyboard dimmer, play-back-forward track controls, and volume up-down-mute buttons.
I hope this helps.

Magic Keyboard + iPad Pro, wow where do I begin...this accessory brought new ways to the iPad experience that I never could imagine. Firstly, the packaging it came in, as with all Apple Products you get attention to detail on the packaging, as well as when you crack into the box after pulling the handy pull tab that is on the corner. The only thing you’ll find in the box is some paperwork, plastic, and your keyboard itself, so don’t be looking around for any cables or anything. Once out you can connect the iPad to the magic keyboard, which is just a couple of strong magnets on the back of the Magic Keyboard and Integrated into the iPad itself, so it gives itself a secure grip once connected into place, so do not worry your iPad will not fall out of the case once its in, but if you wish to take it off do not worry either as with a nice tug your iPad will be set free for you can enjoy tablet mode once again. Unlike other keyboards, this one is a direct connection with the iPad itself, and of course since it is made by Apple you get the full intentions of what Apple wished the iPad to be, like a computer....well sort of. The keyboard does add a little bit of weight on the iPad itself, so be prepared for that, but I did not notice a drastic increase as I am used to using a MacBook Pro. The keyboard itself is backlit, so working at night is a breeze, and the actual keys itself are pretty clicky and super responsive. Also embedded in the keyboard is some shortcut keys, if you are used to MacOS they kind of follow to an extent in iPadOS. (Speaking of the keyboard, if you don’t wish to have the backlight on in the day time, simply go to settings-general-keyboard-hardware keyboard then simply change the brightness to your desired level.) The trackpad, however is a different, but very useful experience for the iPad. It brings a new light to it, and makes it really comparable to a modern laptop, or even a lower model MacBook. The trackpad is responsive as well, and allows you to click anywhere on the screen. Also on the keyboard itself, there is an additional USB-C port, which allows you to do pass through charging on the iPad to leave the main USB-C port on your iPad freed up for anything you wish to use it for. My only downside of the keyboard is that it doesn’t protect the sides of the iPad, so i suggest getting a tablet sleeve, or even a laptop sleeve that’ll fit it if you plan on carrying it around places that might ding the sides. Other than that, if you get Apple Care Plus for your iPad (which i highly recommend) it will also cover the Magic Keyboard that you buy for the length of your protection on your ipad! (Each subject to a 29 dollar service fee for the keyboard itself of course) Some people may think the price is too high for what it is, yes its a 250 dollar keyboard, but its more than a keyboard its an amazing accessory for your iPad especially if you use it on the daily. Plus with price being mentioned, you can always apply for the credit card that BestBuy offers, and if you get approved you can finance this keyboard interest free for either 12 months or 6 months which is amazing I think, I chose the 12 month financing! Anyway, I love this keyboard...and I think any other iPad Pro user will to!

I got the grey version. I love the typing feel on this keyboard. Very crisp and clicky keys, good travel. It is very sturdy, holds the iPad in place stiffly, definitely high-quality, as expected from Apple. I really like the floating design and that it brings the iPad closer to your face. A couple of things I would like would be the ability to tilt back just a little more, as well as function keys as other keyboards have. However, there are command functions you can use in the place of that once you learn them. Also appreciate the pass-through charging. Overall, a great accessory!

I have used this keyboard/case more than any other iPad keyboard. It is sturdy, and very reliable. It allows me to use my iPad almost as well as I would use a laptop.
It was a bit more expensive than other keyboard/case units, but has held up better that the others.
Lastly, I dont have to separately charge the keyboard, or use a bluetooth connection to use the keyboard. I used to hate it when my older keyboards needed to be recharged, or having to plug in two chargers to recharge the iPad and keyboard.

This connects very easily, automatically even. Just position the iPad on it the way it says & it starts working. You can easily move between using this, the pencil, or your finger. I do have issue with when I’ve cut & pasted a hyperlink on it that it doesn’t copy the link in a way in which it connects when clicked. I assume that’s an issue I can look into & overcome, but I haven’t done so yet. The keyboard/case is sturdy & provides a lot of protection when closed up. The iPad also surprisingly stays put although it doesn’t seem like it will since it’s just resting on it & not attached. Overall, really happy I went ahead & purchased.

So much more functionality than before! Easier to use the iPad having an integrated trackpad and with typing, it’s easy.
But once you add all the bells and whistles, just get me a MacBook Pro/Air
This is for my kid to use as it was a high school requirement (iPad) which ultimately was my hand me down to him. I hated not having keypad and mouse, etc...
Can’t figure out the transition as to why aside from weight. Due to limited functionality (I need explorer/windows) the MacBook fits my needs better
If you just need app based materials, word/pages/docs type stuff, safari, and of the likes, highly recommend the upgrade of your iPad with this.

This product's best features are its sturdiness and the usb charge port on the side of the primary hinge. As expected, the keyboard has a nice feel to it and touch works well on the pad. Both of the latter is slightly different in feel than a Mac's keyboard and trackpad.
The iPad itself easily attaches to the back and is done so magnetically. For some this may be problematic if they put any casing to help protect the back. I do understand there is one that works with this item but is a bit expensive.
There are short comings to this item for many - namely that the degree of tilt is very limited, the charge port on the side is only good for power charging (the iPad) and not for data use, and the iPad does not rotate into vertical position with use of the actual keyboard. Last - the sides of the iPad are not well protected against bumps as the keyboard case is flush with the edges of this item when closed.
If your goal is to do lots of typing and want similar functionality to a laptop, this is a decent candidate.

I bought the magic keyboard while it was on sale for $199, and for that price, I would recommend it to anyone who has the money in their budget. It is much harder to recommend when it is priced at full retail, although I do place it above all other alternatives in its class, it's probably is better to go with Logitech or Brydge if $350 is the price when you read this.
I like the keyboard but wish it had function keys for volume or brightness, or keyboard brightness. the trackpad is clickable from any point on the trackpad but it is not the force touch you may be used to in MacBooks or the magic trackpad 2. another thing that isn't a big deal for me but I thought I should mention, is the keyboard is actually heavier than the iPad so it doubles the weight of the iPad and brings the total cost to more than the MacBooks right mow which are better unluss you are an art student or love games.

Best keyboard case fro iPad Pro!

The is the best overall keyboard case for the iPad Pro. They keys have the most travel and don't feel like your typing on a table when using. Also, having the back lit keys is a huge win. Way to go Apple for adding this feature!
The only real downsides to this keyboard case is that you can't fold it backwards and use the iPad in tablet mode without first removing the iPad from this case an the fact that the case is pretty heavy which doesn't really bother me but it may bother others. I think the extra weight makes this keyboard case feel like it's better quality.
The iPad sticks to the inside of the case magnetically and let me tell you it won't come out until you want it to. It is held in place by some very strong magnets.
The entire case appears to be very well made and I Love typing on this keyboard.

This case will make your laptop as close to a laptop as possible. The keys have a great feel. Better than the majority of the ultra book laptops I use. The track pad is great. Nice feel to the clicks. Typical Apple track pad quality. This keyboard cover is great for using your iPad on your lap. It is not flimsy at all. The magnets on the stand are very strong. I carry the iPad around like its a laptop with no issues. With the extra USB port on the cover, it allows me to leave the case plugged in and take the iPad on and off the cover to use for work presentations quickly then drop it back on the cover for instant charging.

This keyboard is great! The “magic” keyboard snaps onto the iPad magnetically which holds the iPad in place at an adjustable angle. It is sturdy with full size keys that make is easy to use. It also has a track pad along with an easy to use USB-C port in the hinge. This allows you to charge your iPad while using the C port on your iPad for headphones, etc. The keyboard covers the iPad like a case, which provides a bit of protection. However, I don’t see it protecting your iPad if it is dropped. It is well built, but a little pricey (as are most Apple products new to the market).

As a case, keyboard and trackpad this is nearly a perfect case but there are 3 major negatives that dictates that I need to reduce a point
Positives
- Keboard is near perfect decent travel, backlight and well spaced
- Trackpad is again near perfect, click accurate, great gesture, but too small
- Case seems durable butis heavy, has no storage for pen and will likely wear similar to the much cheaper smart cover
- Additional USB-C (charging only)
Negatives
- Price, this keyboard is as expensive as a new iPad
- Weight, this thing is heavy and doubles the overall weight
- No holder for pencil
- No additional function keys (volume, brightness etc)
- Price
- Angle of scrfeen does not go back far enough for my needs
- Take away from the overall flexibility of the iPad Pro, makes it more of a laptop than a tablet
Would I buy it again, absolutely yes but not at the full retail price would buy a recondition or secondhand.

Easy to attach and automatically sets up, fun to use! It simply uses the Smart Connector standard for power and connection, which fixes any latency or connection issues that might arise from a Bluetooth accessory #winning
Once you open up the Magic Keyboard it looks as though your iPad is floating, thanks to the magnets built into the case. You can start typing and using the trackpad right away. I love it!
There’s no battery, it gets power from my iPad Pro, so simple to use and it gives me the feeling that I'm using a regular (smaller) laptop!

It is a pricey keyboard. Even when on sale at $199. If money is not an issue at all, then it is the best typing experience you can get on the iPad. But if you use it like 10% of the time (like me because I still prefer to use my MB Air for typing) it becomes hard to justify even this amount. Plus, it really adds weight to the iPad. I think iPad Pro 12.9 + MK is even havier than my MB Air. That is the reason I returned it. If you already have a MacBook then I wouldn't recommend getting this keyboard for your iPad. But if this is the only device you have, then yes, it will dramatically improve your productivity if you type a lot

So yes, this thing is really expensive in my opinion. Paid over $1000 for the ipad pro 12.9 in the first place, and this was $300+........Swallowed hard, but decided to get it. Glad I did.
This really does transform the experience and makes a quantum leap towards making the ipad experience more like a computer. With file manager, a more normal mouse icon and a touch pad that is plenty responsive and where the haptic feels right (unlike a Dell XPS which feels clunky), this will really speed up your experience and change the way you use an Ipad.
One star off because of the inability to open the case up and have the ipad lay flat - for this much money, it should have been thought through a bit more. That said, the battery life is terrific, the keyboard is smooth, the magnet is strong to hold the Ipad in place - all good. A little nit heavier than I want, but I think you trade weight for stability.

Purchased to use with 2021 iPad Pro 12.9 w/M1. Fits perfectly. If you are wondering if it will fit, yes it will! This one goes on sell regularly, so save a great deal of money and buy it. You will not be disappointed. This really helps the iPad Pro function as a substitute for a laptop and also makes a nice stand for consuming media while also protecting it. You really can lose on all of what it offers!! So glad I made the purchase. It was on sale and I purchased even before my new iPad arrived.
