This is a big shift from the Apple keyboards though, since it includes a trackpad and cursor support. When closed, the Apple Magic keyboard looks similar to the Smart Keyboard Folio. Open it up and the differences couldn’t be clearer. The Magic Keyboard is more like a laptop-style dock than a keyboard case. This sets it apart from the other keyboards. The cantilever hinge is the best think Apple could have ever came up with for their Keyboard. When you initially open the iPad, the first hinge opens. It locks in place at an angle less than 90 degrees, keeping the iPad balanced while the second hinge takes over. With that second hinge, you are able to adjust it to any angle up to around 130 degrees. The hinge is stiff enough to keep the iPad where you put it. You get a slightly wider range on the 12.9-inch version, but they are both similar to the range of a MacBook hinge. It’s a welcome improvement from the two static positions you get with the Smart Keyboard Folio. Besides the addition of the trackpad, the iPad’s Magic keyboard uses scissor switches like the desktop and laptop Magic keyboards. The keys feel great, and they’re backlit. The trackpad is a bit on the small side, especially when compared to the monster-sized trackpads in recent MacBook's. Like every trackpad Apple makes, it’s excellent. Perhaps my favorite part about the Magic Keyboard is the way the iPad attaches to it magnetically. The magnets are strong, but it’s easy to pop the iPad on and off. You never have to worry about charging or pairing thanks to the Smart connector. One downside is physics. The iPad is heavy, and the Magic keyboard needs to weigh as much as the iPad to be balanced. And combined, they push into MacBook territory. Excellent choice if you're going to buy a New Keyboard.

This is specifically the 11-inch model and I’ve had this for about a month. Unfortunately, all of my business and personal travel plans have been cancelled due to COVID and for the most part, I have used this indoors. The whole point of this type of setup is to take it out and about but I’ve been pretty much limited to using this from one room to another. Right when I first got this and was holding the box, I could already tell that it was going to be heavy and there is a very noticeable difference between this and the folio keyboard They keyboard weighs at 601 grams - about the same weight as the iPad Pro itself which makes sense for this type of design to act as the counterbalance to the tablet. Weight of the keyboard stops becoming an issue. You get used to it after carrying it around for a few minutes
 Keep in mind that this keyboard might not fit the tablet pockets on some backpacks because it does increase the width a little bit. Some tablet pockets are made for the exact size of the 10.5 - 11-inch iPad. If it will fit with your old folio, it might not fit with the new magic keyboard! Because of the weight, the keyboard feels solid and very well built. I really like how the keys feel in comparison to the folio keyboard. No more of that mushy butterfly bull crap but more of an actual real mechanical keyboard. As some reviewers have pointed out, the typing experience is similar to the keyboards found on the newer MacBooks. I don’t really mind the absence of the function keys because I’ve gotten used all the shortcuts the iPad has had over the years but the design placement of that top row is too close to the bottom edge of the iPad. I think it will bother those with larger hands and people who move their hands up and down a lot when they type.
 Also, the Backlit keys are definitely a welcome addition Using on the lap still isn’t as good as a laptop but it’s much less awkward to use than the keyboard folio

The viewing angle is MUCH MUCH better than the one on the folio. Night and day
 I thought the trackpad would be annoyingly thin, but it’s not so bad and it is very responsive. I think I am more impressed with the trackpad than they keys on the keyboard. Gesture experience (Swiping, scrolling, etc) is similar to the MacBooks So again, I’ve used this for about a month and some people may be wondering - is this a computer and if it could replace a laptop. Short answer is yes to both. But is it better than the actual laptop / desktop computer experience? Now that depends on your own personal use cases. If the iPad Pro was my main device and if I were to use this very often I most probably say this would be the way to go.
 But the thing is, it's not. Even with the release of the new iPad OS 14, it's still not a desktop like experience. I don't want to get into the details of the Operating System limitations but my workflow consists of working on multiple spreadsheets, side by side and juggling that data in between other applications. I mean it IS possible to do that on the iPad and obviously the new Magic Keyboard does improve the typing experience but it really doesn't add anything new to the usage experience that we didn't already have... at least not anyway. Sure you have the trackpad which is nice... but after using the touch screen alone on the iPad for so long, I don't use the mouse capabilities as often as I thought I would over the past few months. I honestly tried real hard to make this my only device but if I had another tool readily available such as my MacBook Pro that does a better job for making my money, then I would obviously use that. But make no mistake, the iPad itself is an excellent compliment to a Mac and even a Windows device and can handle a majority of everyday tasks. A lot of us work within a browser using cloud based services and the iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard is very capable of doing all that. So the big question... is this worth $300 - $350? If your work is mostly done on a desktop or a MacBook because of your workflow and application needs, then $300 is way too much to pay for a websurfing media viewing device where you end up just popping off the keyboard anyway. If you need a keyboard to just type on occasion or do minor work, the keyboard folio paired with a bluetooth mouse or simply using the touchscreen is more than fine. If budget is no issue... then I would absolutely say go for it. This is as close to a viable MacBook touch screen experience as it gets

When I tried this out in the store, I was amazed at how easy it was to use despite the size of it. After buying it, I really tried to disqualify it in the return period, but Apple has this naughty habit of just making their stuff work, and well to boot. It just works smooth as silk, and has helped me leave my laptop at home when having to be a road warrior.

I like the feel of the keyboard a lot more than the other apple folio and love that it is backlit, but for the 11" model I feel that the trackpad is too small and find myself still using my fingers more often that not; I think the trackpad makes a lot more sense on the 12.9" version. It's definitely super heavy and more than doubles the weight of the iPad. I do like that it has an additional USB-C for charging, but also wish it could tilt back a bit further

This keyboard case adds a whole new dimension to the iPad Pro. I can do real work with the keyboard and trackpad now versus just mainly using it for surfing the web and media consumption. While the case is really heavy, designed that way to prevent the iPad from tipping over, it looks like the same material as the Smart Folio so it may degrade over time. I recommend getting a wrap / sticker to cover the back and edges as they can be exposed with this case.

I absolutely love it. Instead of having my heavy laptop on my lap, I can more comfortably work with my iPad with this keyboard. It also is great protection for my iPad. Before ordering it, I was hoping that I wasn’t wasting my money on it. Definitely not.

The iPad Magic Keyboard offers a premium typing experience with responsive keys and a trackpad that enhances productivity. Its backlit keys and sleek design make it a great accessory, though its high price may be a drawback for some users.

I like the thin profile for this keyboard and that it charges along with the ipad. It’s also helpful that the keys light up when being used especially in low light situations. The magnetic connection is nice also so don’t have to worry about corners breaking. It adjusts easily to convenient angle for viewing the ipad screen. Overall I’m happy with it and it’s much easier to type on than the screen keyboard.

Absolutely loved this product! Trackpad feels so natural and the keyboard was great. Plus being able to balance it on my legs while on a couch was amazing. However…I just didn’t end up needing it at all. If I was doing anything remotely productive with my iPad then 100% yes I would have kept this. However, I just don’t use my iPad for anything that requires this setup.

I really enjoy how sturdy the stand feels when I’m either typing on it or watching a movie. The tilting angles help very much! I’d give this 4.5/5 stars if I could. The only cons are: 1. The Price-it’s a lot for a keyboard. 2. No escape key-which I’ll probably get used to. And 3. It’s got some weight to it-but that’s probably why it holds the iPad so well. The pros definitely outweigh the cons, and it’s a must have for typing on the go with an iPad.

High Quality and basically like a mini laptop. I can easily detach it when I want to use my iPad as an iPad. the magnets are strong and the keyboard is light and satisfying. A little expensive but it’s apple. I would mainly recommend this product for those who intend to use an ipad as a keyboard attached device more often then without.

You pay thru the nose but this thing transforms your iPad Pro into an (almost) laptop--especially with the mouse tracking improvements in the latest version of IOS. And if you don't have an actual mouse the trackpad works almost as well as the one in a Mac Book. The biggest drawback is it's heavy and when I just want to use my iPad as a reader, I have to take it off. But the magnetic seal makes that a cinch.

Save your $$ and buy when a bit cheaper. Honestly it’s a great keyboard and fantastic design and functionality. But in my opinion it stops short of covering itself as a protective case, which it could have. Otherwise this checks most of the boxes of a great add on for your IPAD. Note: I’m a longtime chrome book user and fan and unfortunately for a number of both software and hardware reasons I still find myself grabbing the chrome book to get real work done. This product has a smaller but enjoyable to use keyboard. Touchpad is great also. But for the $$ if you want to get real work done go with a great chrome book at a much cheaper price or a Mac laptop. There are a number of things to like about this keyboard attachment: it’s easy to add/remove the iPad itself, the typing experience is quite good, and the trackpad is great. All these things make the iPad Pro better. But, for the price, the outer “shell” material itself feels cheap, like it could rip at anytime. This feeling is exacerbated by the heft of the keyboard itself (which I do not find as a flaw, I appreciate the weight of the keyboard). It feels like just sliding the unit across a desk could result in damage to the cover. While this may not be the case and it may, in reality, be very durable, it doesn’t feel that way and for a 300/350 dollar KEYBOARD, this shouldn’t be the...case.

Years ago when the IPad was released, I tried various types of keyboards and was always disappointed. The Magic Keyboard is with every penny. With a mouse pad that lets you scroll too! I really like that when you charge the keypad- the iPad charges as well. Great case to use on the go!!
