    kind of hard to do anything on apple tv without this remote! my son says theirs quit working and even though you can load an app on I-phones to operate apple tv, I was told you have to have the remote to navigate to use the phone app still. the best is to have a Bluetooth keyboard - makes typing in searches so much easier than with the remote

    I had to buy this remote after I lost my first remote....and couldn't set my phone as the remote without having the remote...also, if you have two remotes, you can only sync one to the tv at a time. So if you lose that remote you can't even use your backup because it won't let you program it just in case. I recommend this to a friend because you literally HAVE to have it to program anything else.

    But other than that they work great. My couch and chair swallows them up so I purchased an extra one to have on hand when I lose a remote. We have several AppleTVs and it works great with them all except for the 1st generation model.
