Nice Monitor…for a hefty price…

Not Happy At The Moment
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not happy right now. Screen is nice, but it seems to interfere with the operation of my browsers, don't know why. I tried three different browsers. I'm not using it right now, until I update my MacOS to the next generation to see if this eliminates the problem. If not, I'll be calling Apple support.

The screen goes dark over and over.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The screen kept going dark without any clear explanation. Finally, I had to wake the screen up by moving the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard. I used an MBP M1 16 plus, the thunderbolt cable that came with the display, and updated the device to the latest firmware/update, and still nothing. It is a shame to be paying premium dollars for a product that does not work correctly.

Best Monitor for the Mac
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having gone through 2 monitors to work with my Mac mini, I was hesitant about purchasing the Apple Studio Display, primarily due to the cost. However, when Best Buy briefly dropped the price by $300, I was tempted to try it. I can definitively say that this is the best 5K monitor on the market, especially for Mac users. My previous monitors required some set up with their included stands, not that they were particularly difficult. The Studio Display, on the other hand, simply required you to take the monitor out of the box, plug in the Thunderbolt cable and attach the power cable. Any adjustments you needed to make could be performed by using Apple's System Settings menu on your Mac. Unlike the other monitors, there were no controls on the display itself for personal adjustment. The features of the Apple Studio Display include a bright image (600 nits), audio, built-in webcam and, of course, a sharp 5K resolution. As others have stated, the price of this display is problematic. However, when you consider the other alternatives in the market, the Apple Studio Display should be your first choice.

Wonderful display
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Resolution, color accuracy, build quality are all top-notch. I love that, like most things apple, "it just works". I did a test photo print (I use an Epson XP-960) and it very closely matched the display. I had none of the headaches I had when I used windows and spent hours upon hours trying to get prints to match up to what I saw on the monitor. Tilt-adjustable stand: I'm 5'2" and the monitor height is great for me. However, I can see how taller people would appreciate the height-adjustable stand or positioning their monitor on top of some other kind of riser. Speakers: Fabulous for built-into-the-monitor. Excellent bass and clarity. If you want great sound without cluttering up your desk, this monitor is perfect for you! Webcam: Not great so far. I don't really use it, but I tested using photo booth and I did, indeed, look very washed out and flat. I'm hopeful apple will correct this with software updates, and from what I've read, they've already started. My bottom line: this is an excellent, albeit pricey monitor that's worth it if you're in the apple universe. I can't see why someone on windows would buy it.

Best Monitor I've Owned
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I procrastinated buying this monitor for months because of the complaints I read about it. My expectations were low but I love this monitor. The sharpness of the text and colors is amazing. The speakers sound great but I still prefer to use my external speakers for the added bass. There were so many complaints about the web cam. I thought it looked great. It's true that people rush to write a bad review but happy customers rarely take the time to come write a review when they love a product. The only negative is the price but no way do I regret this purchase.

Nice monitor, way overpriced.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Yes, this monitor looks great. However, for $1500+, you are not getting OLED, and you are only getting 60hz display. It has no HDMI inputs. What?? Sorry, I don’t want this to sound crazy, but this monitor should retail for around $500 tops.

Huge Letdown
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had high hopes for this monitor, and as a “I own everything Apple” guy, I’m sad I have to write this review. For what you get, this monitor is a joke. First off, they seriously couldn’t give us 120hz pro motion? Not to mention virtually all monitors above the $500 price point have a built in KVM switch so you can use it with at least two devices. Big FYI… no physical power or settings adjustment buttons. All monitor adjustments are done via software from your Mac. Same goes for the bulit in camera. This means if you can get it to work with a PC, you’re stuck with default settings. While I appreciate the speakers, they’re not impressive enough for me to replace my current desktop solution (Sonos). What’s more, this is essentially the same monitor intruduced on the 27” iMac in 2017. Yet it retails at just $200 less than what the entire iMac sold for. Pretty obvious the profit margine on this monitor is a big one for Apple. I strongly encourage shoppers to look elsewhere. I ended up getting a 32” Dell Ultra Sharp monitor instead, at nearly half the price of this one. The picture is unmatched compared to the Studio Display. It doesn’t come with a camera or speakers, but I would rather pair my monitor with nicer ones anyway.

Sharp, Mac centric, pricey, well made
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Other than the price, the monitor is an excellent and almost a necessary display for any desktop Mac user. Many complaints about it not being mini LED or its size not being bigger are understandable but one must keep in mind the price point, especially that of Apple's. If it was mini-LED and was 32", then it would be $3000+ like the 32" HDR display (not even being a true mini LED). As it is, the 27" is very efficient, bright, and hi-re enough for almost any task. I pair it with the new Mac Studio and it is a perfect match as designed. The speakers are overrated but is handy to be a spare. Sharpness at 5K is very noticeable when a compatible Mac is connected to it. Text is crystal clear, skin tone in photos are excellent. The calibration profiles are useful for different applications and are easy to switch. Apple designed this monitor for the Mac; connection to other non Apple devices limits its features and functionality a great deal. The TB3 connection is stable, efficient, and tidy. I also use the USB-C ports to charge my Magic Keyboard and TouchPad. Overall it's not perfect but a good and relatively affordable Mac display.
