Traveling abroad often, I sometimes need additional equipment for communications and production of work. This drive fits the pack easy and has performed as expected and, at a recently reduced price. Great drive!

Although I was initially disappointed that my new MAC didn't come with a DVD drive (like most new computers), I found this add-on super easy to use, sleek-looking and a necessary addition to my MAC. The cable could be a wee bit longer, but, overall, I would buy this Apple add-on again

I recently needed to get some CDs downloaded to my computer so I recently purchased this unit so that I could do that.
I found that it works exceptionally well and it is very user friendly. The transfers were very quick and no corruption occurred. I would highly recommend this unit.

I know a lot of people no longer use CDs, which is why most computers no longer come with disc drives. I am a photographer and try to back up my photos onto discs ever once in a while. This external disc drive is easy to use and very thin, lightweight and easy to store.

I bought this drive to add CD/DVD capability to my 12 inch Macbook. You need an adapter to connect the drive to the USB C port on the Macbook, but after that it is very easy to use. So far I have only used it to rip some music CD's. It has worked well and is reasonably fast.

Since the Mac's do not have CD drives, had to have something!!!
I have one with my Mac, it is very compact!! I travel for work, so it has to be!! The wife bought a new Mac and had to have a CD drive!! She used mine some and liked it!! I'm not willing to leave it at home when I travel, so I had to get her one of her own!!! She love's it!! The only reason for only 4 stars, I give NOTHING 5 stars!! There is ALWAYS room for improvement!!!

There is a number of third party products at significantly lower price; and some people may not understand these are at lower performance as well. Glad I went for the original: simple plug and play with my iMac, great performance and outstanding design.

Although Apple and others are getting away from built in disc drives due to MP3 and other net-based software downloads, I still felt it was important enough for those odd occasions to have this external drive available. Simple, quiet, elegant looking. Apple quality as expected.

I received mac as a gift but needed an external DVD player. Purchased external DVD player from Best Buy, attached it to my mac and followed directions included with player. Works perfectly for watching dvds while on vacation. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

My new MacBook Air has two USB ports but it does not have a CD/DVD reader. Love this lightweight computer but I needed this add-on accessory to view DVDs or to record CDs (a frequent usage need). I'm very pleased with this SuperDrive's performance and its simplicity of operation.

Still have a foot in physical media for music, so I purchased this to back up some of my old beloved CDs.. So far, it's been a solid performer for the last year. I generally rip to losses with error correction. It may be a tad slow, but I'd rather just do it once and get the high quality backup with fewer errors. Playback has been great as.

Since the Mac laptop's these days don't have a CD drive, this little accessory is a necessity. I love that the laptops don't have a CD drive in them that I have to haul around whenever I take my laptop out and about. It makes my laptop much lighter. I mean, really, how often do I use my CD drive? As I realized, not very often. Most programs today are downloaded from the internet, anyway. But there are some programs that still have a CD, and that's where this little gem comes in. You simply plug this into your USB, and POOF! it's attached and ready to burn or download or do whatever you need it to do. Really great little piece. I keep it in the box until I need it, and when I'm done using it, it goes back in the box and into my bookshelf. I really do love this accessory.

I have a massive CD music collection and I needed this drive to put them on my computer. Has been working great and blends right in with my iMac. I have burned a few of my digital versions of music to CD as a backup and that has been flawless as well.

I purchased this item because my newer macbook doesn't have a CD/DVD drive in it which caused me a lot of problems with my older macbook. I really love it it's small and doesn't take up much space. My only complaint is that the cord that connects the CD/DVD drive to your computer is relatively short and cannot be removed from the drive which limits the positions you can put your drive and computer in if you have limited space.

This hard drive is designed for the Mac laptop I purchased for my children. Removing the mechanical hard drive from the laptop is an excellent move by Apple as it will extend the life of the computer. The external hard drive complements the purchase and works perfectly.

A must have add-on for the IMac. I'm a bit old fashion still, I like to pop in a music CD or a software installation disk. Very sharp design fits right in under the stand of the IMac. You do have to guide the disk in almost until you can't hold on to it anymore. After it sucks it in you will automatically know what it thinks you want to do with the disk. Very fast, except i_Tune takes it sweet time ripping a music disk, Media Player is much quicker.

I made it through without an optical media drive on my iMac until one day I decided I needed one. After reading some reviews that cast a poor shade on the quality of Apple's SuperDrive, I took the chance and have been very happy with my purchase. While I don't use it very often, it works well and is sufficient for my needs. Did I really need it? That still remains a hot topic of debate.

The thing that I like about this USB powered drive is that it blends in with my Mac and it sticks to the name brand. However, I can't rate this 5 stars because I know it is overpriced due to the name brand. You can get other name brands for up to around $20 cheaper and have it do the same thing. The drive is also very noisy and shaky when a disk is inserted although I assume that other name brand drives probably do the same thing.

Necessary and Effective Add-On to a new iMAC

Bought a new iMAC, fantastic machine, Retina display, etc. But have a lot of legacy content (video, audio, data files, etc.) stored on CDs and DVDs. Also do some audio and video disc burning. Therefore needed an optical drive since iMACs now come without them. This does the trick nicely and look good alongside the sleek iMAC.
