Well Made DVD Portable Drive

This drive gets moderate use, functioning mainly to import CDs into iTunes, burn DVDs, and create the occasional backup. It's also convenient to have on hand for those rare occasions when I need to install some software from a disc. Completely simple installation as usual from Apple, unwrap, plug in the USB cable, that's it. The cable is quite short: for my Macbook Pro setup it's fine.

Does what it's supposed to do...

I love that my new MacBook Pro weighs just a few ounces more than a MacBook Air, while being a much more capable computer, but I miss my optical drive. This one does the job, but having to use an external drive isn't terribly convenient. Of course, that's not the drive's fault...it works just as it should.

Best disk drive for macs

No buttons, lights, or any software required, just works. Using this with my 2019 15” MacBook Pro running macOS Mojave and it works great. Note: I tried using my usb c hub with this SuperDrive and it didn’t work. You have to use a passive usb c adapter, not a hub. With that small catch, I’d still recommend it. I cloned some disks with it using disk utility and it worked perfectly.
