The Apple disc drive cannot only be put away when not in use, but it also reads and writes on DVDs and CDs! A great way to back up your computer and make room for more music, movies, etc.

It is a good unit, stable and reliable but a little slow. I may be spoiled by the speed of the usb 3 memory sticks and I haven't used a dvd written in so long that I'm just under-rating this because it did do a good job when I used it but Apple was right, it's really not needed.

I was sceptical at first buying a MacBook Pro without a built-in DVD but now I appreciate that it means computer can be thinner & an internal drive is one less thing to go wrong. I'd like it to be Blu-ray compatible too. Would be easier to carry & less likely to break over time if the USB cable was detachable.

This was definitely a great buy. Since my laptop doesn't have a place for CDs/DVDs, this is a great alternative, especially for the price. I've had no issues with it so far.

I bought this to go with my iMac 21.5 and it works great and does everything I need it to do. It plays my CD's and DVD's and records what I need recorded. What more could you ask of it.

There are a LOT of drives out there, many don't have all the features this one has, and even if they do, and are cheaper, THIS is the dependable one

I love that it doesn't overheat like most laptops do that have cd drives or when using external devices they exude excessive heat from use.

Turned into an Apple device family a few years ago. Just got my first desktop with this and am very happy with all my Apple products!!!!! Definitely no turning back now!

Now that the new macs are not being manufactured with a CD Drive it becomes necessary sometimes to have one. This drive is a great value for the price and it's there when you need it.

Although it would have been nice if the cd/DVD drive was an integral part of the computer, this unit is compact so doesn't take up much room. It operates very smoothly and functions perfectly.

My old iMac had the drive within it and my new one does not. Therefore I bought this for those occasional times when I might want that capability.

A nice extra to allow you to play DVDs/CDs through the included cord which connects to your Macbook Air. The drive is quiet and seems very sturdy, which is nice for traveling purposes.
