You need this only if you need to use CDs or DVDs or burn them. Not too much use these days when everything is downloaded from Internet.

The Apple Super Drive is a snap to use with the MacBook Pro. Just plug it in - nothing to download. The finish also matches the computer. The sales staff at Best Buy was helpful in answering my questions about this product.

Of course this is going to work well...I came from Apple ... besides you will take it back if it does not ...lol thank all Happy New Year

This disc drive works great as you would expect. However it’s a shame it does not work for Blu-ray Discs. Hopefully Apple will works something out with Sony that allows them to use he technology in the future.

I have always been an a Macintosh user the addition of the DVD player and Mouse 2 make the use of my Mac Pro even better

Always a good buy. My Mac has no way for me to burn disc so this was a good buy.

Bought this and returned it due to finding my other, cheaper, non Apple one. I should have kept it. This other one does not compare with any apple product I have like actual Apple products-even when it says it's Apple compatible.

Bought this to replace a previous mouse. Works perfectly and now has a built in rechargeable battery. The battery life is very long

Although the Apple-branded DVD/CD drive is more expensive than others, its quality and reliability is worth the extra cost.

Nice Superdrive, but I really liked my original IMAC where the drive was integrated into the machine. I guess something had to give to reduce size.

Very happy with this SuperDrive , I initially wanted a computer with a built in DVD / CD drive but this is a high quality product

Had to buy since new Macs don't come with a disc drive. I guess with all the dependence on immediate downloads and cloud access for programs, the disc drive has become, if not obsolete, a bit 'old school'. Ok, maybe not everyone needs one but, does it really cost that much to add it on to the unit or do you really need to charge this much for the add-on? Such is life sometimes, I guess.

Works great would rather have an built in drive but i wanted a new Mac not a older version I guess it's a marketing scheme to buy them separate

This a high quality drive that will meet all your needs. It's als a must have for loading CDs or DVDs not to mention it just looks great also.

Its terrible that the new MacBook Pro does not have a built in CD ROM drive so this is a must have for me.

This CD drive works well and does exactly what I need it to do. Connection works flawlessly with my mac. Simply plug and play.

How can you not want to have the option to watch or listen to music movies on this computer that has amazing screen and sound!

i didn't think i needed it. comes in handy especially for mac airs or the new 2015 MacBooks. I'm always burning CD's for family and friends
