I have an iMac but it didn't come with a CD-ROM drive. When I bought TURBOTAX, I found out I needed a CD-ROM drive to activate the program (yes, I know I could just go to the TURBOTAX website and do my taxes there...but I have security concerns). Instead, I bought the APPLE USB Super Drive. It does exactly what I want it to do. It plays DVDs, also. Highly recommended!

Works great. Would recommend for this PC. The only downside was a little more expensive.

This USB Super Drive offers the luxury of having the capacity to watch or burn a DVD or CD. I was disappointed in the MacBook Pro's lack of this device integrated within; but now, because I just would not have used that feature frequently anyway, find the Super Drive to be useful only when I need it. And the fact that I don't always lug it around means that my MacBook Pro is lighter.

I bought this as a holiday present for my husband. He received it yesterday, and has not yet hooked it up. However, our kid, who worked for several years at the Apple Store, says it's a good item, so I'm willing to (provisionally) give it an acceptable rating. I may improve that rating, or downgrade it, depending upon further developments. Since my husband is a self-acknowledged Luddite (i.e. not at all computer savvy) his opinion may vary, once he's tried it out.

Needed it because of course, Apple does not believe in Cd's. no surprise that you have to purchase all these attachments to a laptop and at the end of the day, any apple device looks like it's on life support. It does the job and has been working with no problems since the date of purchase.

I bought this peripheral for my new IMac desktop because it is now required. Older IMac's had a slot in the side of the computer for CD's and DVD's, which was a really nice feature. The newer computers from Apple don't have a slot, thus the necessity for the external hard drive. That being said, this product is excellent and serves my needs exactly. It is what I have come to expect from Apple, and it delivers.

Bought a Memorex brand and could not get it to work on my Mac computer. Took it back and got the one made for my Mac. It was so easy to use. Just plug in and play without having to download any other programs. Only downside is that it seems to be slow taking in the DVD. I would recommend it to anyone with a Mac.
