    Since my MacBook Pro does't have a cd/dvd drive, this purchase was necessary for my kid to do school work off a CD. It works great for this. Not so much for playing DVDs. The controls could be better and it is a bit slow getting the DVD loaded. This drive is pricey as all Apple hardware is.

    Utilized this for my Macbook and had 0 issues with it. Plug and Play. Just keep the drive more stabilized while you are running things.

    Apple have included a disc drive in the newer macs it's to much bother to take out when needed

    Failure to eject is a MAJOR problem. There is no manual eject button (streamlined Apple design eliminated all useful tools and information on the drive itself) and disc doesn’t show up on the Mac monitor so it can’t be ejected via keyboard. This happened with two brand new disc dives and two different professional DVDs on two different MacBooks. A real nuisance trying to get the DVD out. Stay away.
