First you need to only buy regular DVDs, not blue ray.....secondly it is expensive and very disappointing of a Apple product to work so poorly

Doesn’t have a manual CD eject

One of the CDs got stuck but there was no way to eject it manually. Apple took out the manual “paper clip” pin hole. I had to take to Geek Squad and they plugged it into multiple machines and it finally ejected. It needs a strong power source. I have MacBook Pro 2018 but not enough power. Geek Squad replaced drive unit. I got a replacement but it only worked on latest iMac. A power hub won’t work. You need a one-on-one adapter USB-C to USB-2. I finally used it on my latest iMac and it worked fine.

Because the cord is way too short so it makes it very inconvenient to watch any DVDs. I have a PS3, so I didn't REALLLLLY need it, but I thought since my Macbook doesn't come with one, I'd buy it. I returned it after one use. Definitely not worth the money, unless it was wireless.

No upgrades

It cannot access 4D HD, nor can it play Blu-Ray discs without expensive add-ons from Apple. So, yes, the device works, but no better than it did ten years ago.
