4 months after purchase, I got around to opening this drive. Unfortunately, it does not work on my Mac or my Windows PC. It is just dead. Wish I would have opened up earlier so I could take it back. I expected better quality from Apple.

Bad product. When a disk gets stuck inside it can’t be opened. Throw away & buy another is evidently now the Apple Think Different way.

Did a fair amount of research and decided to stick with Apple when my internal optical drive failed on my aging iMac and I needed a replacement. The drive looks great and I'm sure would operate outstanding if my iMac wasn't too old to run it. Perhaps I missed in my research that it wouldn't run on older machines.

I recently purchased a new Mac Pro, an adaptor and the disc drive (since there is not a disc drive on the computer). This disc drive will not work as it has to be plugged into a port actually on the computer. The ports on the computer do not match the portend on the disc drive.

Best Buy staff recommended this when purchased my MacPro. Did not work as advertised or as staff claimed. Returned to Best Buy and exchanged for another more compatible item. Wasted valuable time trying to use it and to return it.

Had to buy this one, as some other people I have a car that does not plug in a MP3 player. Everything is downloadable now, so discs are getting obsolete. Apple ripped it off from all of its devices, but thank goodness they didn't let people like me down.
You may ask, why buy an expensive Apple product even if you could get a generic for less? Compatibility. After my first Apple product, I know expect everything to be really plug and play., no hassle, no drives, no software, no restart, just plug, use, unplug.
That's the reason I bought this expensive external DVD drive. As it's apple the word expensive seems unnecessary and nothing is this world is perfect, I has to point something bad.
Here you have people. This device works great. Quiet - you barely hear it when it's reading, easy to install - plug and use, no software or drivers.
