This works really well with my 2015 MacBook Pro. It just sucks that you have to purchase these separately now, but it is nice to have a slimmer laptop and I don't really need an onboard optical drive all that much anyway. Just wish Apple didn't charge so much for them, but they are good quality.

Apple TV users beware. Limited uses.

(Mac Apple TV users be careful when purchasing. I bought this to replace my BlueRay player. There are some cons:
1. This only plays DVDs and CDs, NOT BlueRay discs. I have more than a few DVDs, so I can watch the DVDs on my 2019 MacBook Pro. My BIG DISAPPOINTMENT is that i cannot mirror or Airplay DVDs onto my Apple TV to watch them on my large flat screen like I do other laptop screen content. The content shows on the laptop but the Apple TV screen shows only a gray screen. This is an Apple fail in my opinion. Why limit users to watch DVDs on the laptop only when you market something called Home Theater, and this is your ancillary product? I understand licensing considerations, but we've already purchased the DVDs that we watch ???
2. Even the DVDs that I created for personal content are not viewable on Apple TV. (I suppose I could ask my family and friends to gather around the laptop)
3. No screen caps are allowed for #1 or #2, so your creativity for presentations is limited. Again, I appreciate the ability to limit screen captures from licensed content, but I should be able to capture screens from my own homegrown DVDs.
4. An adapter is required to go from USB A (the DVD/CD drive) to USB C on my 2019 MacBook ports, so I had to purchase a $19.00 adapter to use 2019 software with my 2019 laptop. Ka-Ching... another Apple con.
5. Sometimes discs get stuck (the discs are sucked in, so there is no drawer to pop out). There is no way to open this vacuum-sealed container. (No screws) Disconnecting and then reconnecting the drive has worked for me to pop out a stuck disc.
Pros:
1. Super easy to use.
2. Seamlessly imports music from CDs into my laptop Apple Music app.
3. Sleek and lightweight.
In summary, if all you want to do is play and import music from CDs, or for data uses for CDs, this is a good choice.

We needed for those occasions that is necessary to use a dvd or cd. And I like using it for putting my "play list" from iTunes. We have two because we have multiples MacBooks my 15 retina and the kids MacBooks airs. my wife still prefer the 13" MacBook pro with the drive install in it ( there is only one model with it left) and it looks like it is going away this year. To summarize this drive perform excellent is elegant and one of the best future is that it does not have any buttons minimizing the opportunity to break.

I got my first iMac and was disappointed that there was no cd/dvd drive with it. Its not a huge deal and you dont use it much anyway with most software purchased from downloads, etc. But I borrow CDs from the library and needed a drive to add them to itunes. Its seldom used for anything else. It looks really good (same color as iMac) and really sleek and small. Its pretty fast too, but I wouldnt say its wicked fast, about normal for this day and age. AN ACCESSORY MUST FOR YOUR MAC! I couldnt say it any better.

A must have for iMac

Really not much to say about this other than it works fine. It is compact and hooks to the thunderbolt connection. Obviously a must since the imac does not come with a dvd/cd player. While it is possible to transfer many files via dropbox or some kind of cloud network, some are too big and you need to transfer with your backup cd/dvd. I had to with my backups for itunes, various files, and videos that were stored on dvds/cds.

I have been converting all of my CDs to Sound Cards. I soon realized that I have a lot of CDs collected throughout the years. This unit handles them like a dream. For heavy use it is well worth the money. I previously bought the LG (better price), but it wasn't worth the hassles unless you don't plan on using the LG very often.

I purchased this DVD/CD drive for my MacBook Pro. I just had to plug it onto the USB port and it worked instantly. There were cheaper alternatives, but they were ugly. I like the sleek look and the fact that it matches my MacBook.
