I bought this drive for the newer iMac desk computer which doesn't have an on-board optical drive, but it will also work with MacBooks that don't have on-board drives such as the Air. It's light, compact and requires no installation, (Plug and play). Construction is sturdy, and the mechanism that draws in and ejects the disc feels strong. I've only had a few weeks, so i can't speak to longevity.

This is EXACTLY what my new MacBook Air was missing! With a quick usb to usb-c adaptor, this SuperDrive added back all of the functionality of an onboard device but only when I need it. Even the finish is an exact match.

My daughter loves this!! Now she can watch DVD movies on her MacBook, something she has wanted to do for a long time. We previously bought another DVD/CD drive, but we had a hard time connecting its. This took us a few minutes, and then she was watching a movie!

I wish this was just built into my computer, but since it wasn't I went ahead and bought it. it is great and plays CD,DVD, Blu Rays, and burns cd's quickly. I haven''t had any problem with it. If you are in need for a cd/dvd/blu ray player for your mac, buy this, you won't regret it.

I bought this along with my MacBook Air, knowing I would need to view or create CDs and DVD copies of my projects. While it works great on the laptop, it does not work on my old iMac. I was hoping that I could use it on the iMac as most of my work was generated on my iMac. However, having a new MacBook Air gave me an excuse to upgrade some of my software and then transfer file to the air when making the disc copies. It does its job well!

Unfortunately, this is the best option when you need to read a CD on your new MacBook. I purchased this as I needed to read secured data from a CD-ROM. Kind of wish that Apple would have created a BLU-RAY version just to make this drive more applicable to media devices. Otherwise, it works exactly as needed/intended.

Apple products always work seamlessly with Apple computers. While there isn't as much call for DVD/CD ROM drives anymore, I still have a fair amount of old files, pictures, etc. on them. This way I still have access.

I love the ease of use and how compact it is. Very satisfied with this product.

Don't use it much but it works just fine. I purchased this because I can't stand the new computers without a cd drive regardless of whether I use it often or not! I like to have just in case. On another note... too expensive!
