I'm not a fan of mixing brands when it comes to accessories; so glad we got the Apple drive. It may have cost a few dollars more, but well worth it since there appear to be no compatibility issues. Not sure it would have been that smooth with another brand to save $20.00.

Very good dvd burner.

With this device I can finish everything I need to do still on the go. I just plug it in and start burning dvd's. Most my work is about eight to ten minute dvds and with this device it taking about three to four minutes to burn them.

Since Apple devices tend to work together well I got their SuperDrive. I have a Caldigit TS3 dock and thought I could connect the SuperDrive to it via one of the the USB ports since the SuperDrive does not come with a USB-C connection. However, when I connected the SuperDrive to the dock I got a message saying the USB ACCESSORY NEEDS POWER, Connect "Apple USB ..." to a USB port on this Mac. I found out that I need a passive USB-C to USB adapter for the SuperDrive to work. Once I got a passive USB-C to USB adapter it works great. It would have been nice if the SuperDrive would have worked with the TS3 dock or came with a USB-C connector.

Although I would like to have had an incorporated CD/DVD drive within the computer itself, it is a trade off for a more compact, lighter laptop. Just plug in the superdrive and away you go with whatever you are doing that requires this external device, super easy to use.

Apple Disc Drive

Basically all you do is plug it in and follow the VERY simple directions in the box. Thank goodness it was so easy.
