It's nice to have an Apple - SuperDrive 8x External USB Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive - Silver. My 2007 MacBook was an alternative backup for a CD/DVD drive until I could no longer upgrade the iOS. Glad to have this plugged in for use as needed.

We were told not to buy a computer with a hard drive because they tend to crash sooner. We bought an Apple 3 years ago and havent had one issue. We dont use the cd/dvd often enough to have it part of the computer. This works great when we need it.

My new Mac Book Pro did not come with a built in CD drive, so I had to purchase this. It is super easy to use, literally just plug in the USB! I don't use it too often, but I have needed to to load vacation photos from CDs that we purchased and to rip some CDs into iTunes.

Away on vacation, we were desperate for entertainment one wet, rainy afternoon--after the uncooperative weather forced us to cancel our outdoor plans. So the idea of a movie was great, but my Apple laptop had no cd nor DVD drive. So in desperation we purchased this external drive to allow for a movie to be watched on our laptop. The device worked as planned. We are now suitably prepared for more rainy days in our future!

As a result of Apple's phasing out of the drive in my MacBook and my old computer slowly dying, I needed to get this to burn a disk. Very easy to install and use. Also made it easier to add movies to my itunes library.

The Apple Superdrive has performed flawlessly. I've read over 75 CD's to my MAC iTunes library with none of the load/unload issues that some have reported. Burning CD copies also works well. I've used only the native MAC software for reading and burning copies with no problems whatsoever.

My old iMac had a built-in superdrive, but the new versions do not. So I bought the external one, which can be used on my laptops as well. While I didn't appreciate having to buy it in the first place, it really is quite convenient as a one-time purchase for several different machines.

If you subscribe to the adage “You get what you pay for”, then this is the external hard drive for you. It’s a quality product but you need to be prepared to pay a premium price to get it.

Got it to rip CD's to Apple Lossless so I can get the best quality music out of my home theater system. Less convenient than downloading direct from i-tunes, but this is how to get the best sound. Player is very easy to use. Just plugged into usb port of my macbook pro and go!

My new iMac has no DVD drive, and I wanted one. To be honest, appearance played a role in my decision to buy this unit over others- It matches the iMac perfectly, and sits on the pedestal like it was meant to be there all along. Has functioned flawlessly, no negative issues for me so far.

It's good for burning CDs to your computer or for watching DVDs. The only annoying thing about it is the drive's cord: 1) The cord on it has a USB end=a) it won't work off your Mac computer unless you buy an adapter cord; b) so, now you have adapted the end from USB to fit your Mac power port and it will ONLY run off direct connection to your Mac. 2) Now you need an adapter for your Mac's other power port so you can connect an HDMI cord and probably your mouse USB. Once you're used to all this cord paraphernalia, you're good to go. It's frustrating on the front end, though.

Plain and simple, it's an external cd/DVD drive for Mac. Easy to use - just plug in the USB cord and you're pretty much set! I use it for my Mac Mini whenever I want to import music CDs to my music library. If you still use CDs and DVDs, this may be a good investment for you.

Non of my computers have optical drive players anymore. I still occasionally need to play a DVD or want to download an old music cd. This is perfect for that. Powered via the usb cable, no other power cable needed.

Apart from the short USB cable, which inconveniently restricted its position on my desk, I can't find any fault with it. What can one say about an external SuperDrive? It does its job with no problems, and it is a necessary addition to a MacBook Pro that does not have an internal SuperDrive.
