This external drive allows mac user to burn CDCs/DVDs, and install external software if purchased on the disk. You can also view movies by using this external drive. Since the computer doesn't come with this drive, this is a must purchase for MAC owners.

It’s by Apple. Therefore, it is overpriced. But since it is by Apple, it works perfectly. Gets the job done.

The good news is it works seamlessly with Mac Mini's, iMacs, and Macbook Pros that don't already come with a DVD. You can boot from it and, of course, burn DVD's of all types. The bad news is it's slowish, and primarily Apple compatible and doesn't work on PC's.

Since most laptops don't come with internal drives this is the perfect gift for someone who wants to burn movies, music, etc. Easy to set up and user friendly. The person I gave this to was vary happy to receive it.

works much better then my original LG, it does sound like something breaking on the inside but that is normal

Very happy with my purchase I had actually previously purchased a different brand and returned it because it was to confusing for me and my computer couldn't find it. This one immediately my computer recconnized and I began to use with no problems

I needed a drive to upload music cds to stream iTunes music. This solved the problem. Have become an Apple fan in using computers. It is an inexpensive solution. Easy to install and use.

This drive works 1000x better than the one I purchased from amazon. The amazon one was just a few bucks cheaper and it scratched my cds and caused my MacBook to freeze in iTunes.

This DVD ROM is perfect for all of your Alpple products.. It is true plug and play. I purchased a less expensive one and was very disappointed. I returned it and picked this one up. It works perfectly. Very pleased with this purchase.

Got my wife a Mac Mini M2 to replace her old and failing 27" iMac and needed to have this for playing DVDs and burning photos and data to CD/DVD. One issue we have is that it has to be directly connected to the Mac Mini. Even with a powered hub we were told it needed power. An expansion dock is probably in our future to add more connectivity and storage options.

Works very well with my Apple computer! I only purchase Apple products and was going to get it from the Apple store, but decided to go to Best Buy and was actually surprised they carried Apple products for the same price. Great deal!!

this is an awesome product I purchased with my mac, and I am very glad that I did. If you have cd's to play, it's great. All I did was plug it in and it started working. What could be easier than that!

Love it works great easy to use the only problem I had was when u plug it up to your computer it does nothing. You have to put a cd in the drive before anything will pop up on your computer

Great for burning DVDs to send to family that just can’t figure out social media!! Only reason for the 4 star vs 5 star review is I recently purchased the 27in 5k display and although streaming is great it doesn’t beat 4K BluRay Player. Therefore I wish apple made a Blu-ray or 4K version instead of a DVD version.

Apple's external CD drive works well and serves it's purpose. This is the (extra) price we pay for those of us who have the Macbook Air or Pro Retina machines--no drives on those. Here's the trade-off in weight & overall footprint. Is it worth it? Eh..debatable. Yet, it's still a good product--just not 5 star worthy.

Other than having to buy an adapter to connect this to my Mac Pro I have had no problems with this. It’s been very easy to use and gives me the ability to use software that comes in disc only.

I purchased this because my 2nd MBP has no cd/dvd drive. I think its a major set back for Apple, offer the "Air" but keep the MBP with the drive. The unit is compact and fits inside my briefcase/backback without taking any significant amount of space. In all honesty I haven't used the drive yet. I trust in Apple products. I haven't bitten into a bad Apple yet.

This drive is not very bulky, rather small and compact, and a need for some Macs since no built-in drive is added to laptop. I figured it is necessary to have to download CD, or DVDs but really its just plain ridiculous that its needed to purchase separately!
