This DVD drive was one of many choices but unlike the others, is made by Apple so I expected superior quality and a smooth learning curve. Sure enough, I plugged it in to the macbook pro & it worked immediately, and has even read 10 yr old discs of music, movies, etc. effortlessly. If you own a mac, the higher price may be worth it. Solid purchase.

This is an excellent external drive for everyday use. It combines the best of design and ease of use, resulting in a plug-and-play product that maintains a compact form factor roughly the size of a CD case, though slightly taller. The major selling point that lead me to purchase this drive was that it has a single USB cable for both data and power. This was a necessity for my retina Macbook Pro which only has one USB hub on each side, so drives that require two cables were out of the question. Nonetheless, I have owned this drive for about two months and I have experienced no problems like disc rejections or scratches. My only complaints are that the built in USB cable seems like it could wear over time where it connects to the drive and write speeds are lower than other drives on the market. Overall excellent product!

This drive is exactly what I needed for my new iMac and it works flawlessly. Same aluminum finish and fits perfectly on the base of the iMac. I understand why Apple doesn't include the optical drive on their computers, so it is great that they make one that works perfectly with their computers.

My MacBook Air doesn't come with a CD/DVD drive so I was forced to buy one. I didn't want go go cheap and buy an off brand one so I opted for the Apple one. I was happy how easy it was to use. You just plug it in using the USB port, no need to download any software programs. After doing that a DVD/CD icon loads onto your desktop and you're done. For the amount of money I paid, I will definitely try using this often.

I love this. USB double layer DVD CD player it is so tiny that it doesn't need to much Space. you can put it anywhere on you computer desk and it does the job pretty good and it's easy to connect to the computer easy to use. I will definitely recommend this to anybody

High quality, fast, simple to use...what is not to like. I have had only used HP external disk drives (for what reason I do not know). I got this drive to go along with my Mac purchase and am greatly impressed. The only thing that I am still not certain about is the lack of ANY controls (power, eject...) on the unit itself. Everything is controlled from the Mac.

This new drive is very handy. It is small, quiet and easy to use.

I purchased a new IMAC last July. Unfortunately it did not have a CD/DVD drive. I was using my 2009 MacBook to burn CDs and it was real slow. I decided to buy an Apple Superdrive instead of another product and I'm very happy with it. I can create CDs in quarter of the time that it took on my MacBook. It's also small - the size of a square CD so it does not take up a lot of space.

My previous Superdrive failed after about two years of use - not unusual in this era of disposable units. My original purpose for the unit was as a supplement to my IMac that lacked an optical drive (Apple made them "obsolete prematurely on these products - in advance of when people had severed the need for these through either USB or Cloud services). It functions like an internal hard drive reader-writer and has the advantage that when it fails, there's no "service charge". just unplug, discard, and plug in the new one. Works seamlessly through the USB port. It would be nice if the unit came with a separate eject button, but it's not a critical design flaw.

I recently decided to get an external DVD Drive to go with my MacBook Pro ... As I learn the Mac and Apple products I add to technology as I need it . I truthfully have only used it twice thus far . It was easy to figure out .. I'm looking forward to using it on my future hotel stays during my golf trips .. With that being said , yes it is small enough to fit in my Lap top bag with no problem .

Really missed my old computer with a superdrive in it, so I HAD to have this to play and record CDs. Is that a generational thing or what?? Occasionally I have trouble removing CDs but that could be the computer's or CD's fault.Fits under my iMac and on top of CalDigit adaptors device.
