I'm not the biggest Apple fan, and it wasn't my first choice - I had actually bought the Roku 4. But the Roku didn't work with the HDMI port on my main TV, no audio. I tried everything to get it fixed (it worked on other TVs) but wasn't able to. Because of this, I had to get the Apple TV 4 instead, as a Christmas gift for my wife. We we were previously using a Chromecast device with an iPad to watch Netflix, Plex, and HBO Go. I have to say, I'm very happy with the decision. Setup was much easier than the Roku because I had an iOS device connected on my wireless network. It took my wireless settings and my account information from the iPad and was up and running in less than 15 minutes. Navigation is a little weird at first. The remote is sensitive and responsive, but you can't always tell what icon you're on. It's very easy to find your way around once you figure out that the entire top half of the remote is a button. The apps load quickly and streaming was consistent. There were hiccups, some apps took forever to finally connect to the internet and if one hangs (as one of the games I loaded did), it can be tricky to figure out how to kill it. No surprise that network issues can cause problems. Other than that, most of the apps were easy to navigate and it played everything we threw at it. I was concerned some of my Plex movies wouldn't play, but so far no issues. This is much quicker, easier, and more stable than Chromecast. The remote is kinda fun to use and it's got a nice aesthetic. Very pleased overall.

I bought this for my wife so she could enjoy some tv at home and I learned that it has games you can get for it and we have a few of them. I love the quality of the picture that comes out of it and the games are great fun to play. Some games even allow you to play with someone who has an iPhone on the same wifi. The new remote is outstanding and it's super easy to use and the black is much more stylish than the old silver. We got the 64 FB version and haven't had any problems with it, great gift for anyone!

I gave it 4 start instead of 5 because of the price and a couple small things. The product is solid upgrade from the previous version. The new remote is awesome and can turn your TV on and off so no need for multiple remotes. It also has Siri incorporated, I just learned how to use it and it is very handy although it has it's limitations. For example, you can't ask it to search something on YouTube, instead you have to scroll the remote letter by letter which is tedious. Big issue for me, wireless keyboards still can't be linked and the old remote app doesn't work. I do love the app store, although currently limited, and see great potential for the product once developers begin focusing on taking advantage of it's capabilities.

I got this so that I could cut off most of the cable television service and use this to save some money on the monthly cost. It works well, the remote has a touchpad surface much like a laptop would and it's easy enough to use. I have large hands, and the remote isn't that uncomfortable to hold and use, plus it came with a charge right out of the box and I haven't had to charge it once yet. So it's gone at least one solid month on it's initial charge and I use this daily. The only downside to the plan that I had of cutting out the TV service and using this instead is: You still would need a log in for cable service for almost ALL the network apps, such as AMC, comedy central, ect.. There are some apps that are NOT available on the Apple TV that ARE on the iPhone and iPad, such as Amazon Prime video. As of the time of thisreview (3/14/2016) there is NO Amazon Prime app available. There is also currently no way to surf the web via the Apple TV by itself. If you have an iPhone or iPad, you CAN do screen mirroring which basically puts whatever is on your screen right onto your TV. The device has Wi-Fi as well as a plug to connect via an ethernet cable (which, I would recommend as you're GOING to get signal loss and slower speeds via Wi-Fi) There are some games that you can play with the remote and some that require another person to have an iPod/iPhone/iPad to be the second player. I've experienced some issues when streaming video content from my ipad to the Apple TV, but that is mostly due to how the website I am watching video works. It's clearly not optimized to do what I'm doing, so I'm not too upset that it has some issues. Example: There currently is NO app for Adult Swim to watch some of the shows on that network for the Apple TV. So, I go online to the website on my iphone or iPad and click on the video there to stream it to my device, and then simply click on the "screen mirroring" and have it go to the Apple TV. There have been some times when it goes to play a commercial that it will stop broadcasting to the TV and try to play on the device itself (the phone or tablet) and you will need to turn the phone or tablet back on, grab the remote, click play and hope that it goes on with what it was trying to do. This can be frustrating and trying to watch things like The Walking Dead via the AMC website and broadcast it to the Apple Tv has not gone well. This could be fixed when/if they release a stand alone app for the Apple TV or if the websites can figure out why it's not playing well with going from a mobile device to screen mirroring to the Apple TV. Overall, those 3 or 4 shows that require this additional muddling about can just as easily be watched on a laptop or desktop. If that's NOT an option for you, then you might want to look into a different option. Netflix, Hulu, Youtube all work very well and I've had no issues with them. The Siri voice search can take some getting used to, and it often ONLY will show you what's available through iTunes. If you have a LOT invested already with iTunes, iPhone, Apple in general... then this will be a good fit. Buying shows and movies and music to play on the TV is easy through itunes. It takes up very little room. The remote itself is bluetooth so you don't NEED to have the device visible if you don't want. The remote DOES have I.R. so you can controll volume on your television with the Apple TV remote. Some programming may be required, if you're TV doesn't have the HDMI capability to automatically detect and change settings. My Samsung TV had no issues with it, the remote was able to turn on the TV and change the volume. You can sync it up with your iCloud and see pictures and some videos on the TV that you took with your iPhone or iPad or other connected Apple device that is set up to share images or use the cloud. So, if you take some pictures with your iPhone and want to show them to everyone, then it will appear in your photo stream on your Apple TV. Just be aware that it will show EVERY one of your recent pictures that are shared. So... keep that in mind. If you have kids and you take some photos that are not exactly PG....they can see them on the TV if you have photo sharing set up. My only complaints are: Lack of supported Apps, which time will more than likely change. When you want to put the Apple TV to sleep, you hold the menu button for a few seconds and a little message pops up asking you if you want to put the apple TV to sleep (bascially shut it off) when you do so... it will turn off the TV as well. This can get a little annoying, and it MAY only be due to the type of TV that I have. But if I want to switch over to a gaming console or blueray player or any other input and wish to put the Apple TV to sleep, it turns off the TV and I then have to turn it back on and manually swap over to the next input. It will also switch over to the Apple TV if you accidentally click on, so far, ANY button on the remote. So if you are watching TV or a DVD or something else, and someone picks up the remote, it will detect that someone picked up the remote and if they press anything, any button or click in the trackpad portion on the top of the remote, it will change the input on the TV over to the Apple TV. Again, this MAY only be due to the brand and model of Television that I personally have. This may not do this on ALL makes and models of television. And it's not that big of a deal, I just have to grab the other remote and switch it back. So, Do I recommend it? If you already have something invested with Apple. Be it an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Macbook, iTunes... and you already have some content in your itunes such as movies, shows, music, podcasts... then YES, this would likely make more sense. If you have NO apple Products, don't have an iTunes account... Then you might want to look into a Roku or something else. They have similar features (especiialy the Roku 3 and 4) but don't focus on a pre-existing library of photos, music, movies, shows and other things in an iTunes library. Not to say that you CAN'T use this if you DON'T have any other Apple device or accounts... it just might make more sense to try something else.

    Improved with SIRI

While the basic function of the Apple TV has improved, most noticible was the changes to the remote. The remote now has a track pad area in the upper third of the face to allow navigation through menus. SIRI is also invoked by pushing a microphone labeled button. SIRI will perform functions such as "find science fiction movies" . The remote is not lighted, but the position of the minimal number of buttons is easy to memorize. I believe this is my third generation of Apple TV and interconnection via CEC control still is a bit flakey as the Apple TV will not always turn on the TV if the Apple TV is awaken first. Connection with phones and iPads for AirPlay is easy and works fine.

I've owned and tried many streaming devices and all have left something to be desired (Chromecast, Roku, Fire TV). The 4th generation AppleTV builds upon its predecessors and improves in a major way: an app store. While there aren't that many game changer apps yet, the possibilities are there and I'm excited to see what comes in the future. In the meantime, the available apps work well and the device is extremely smooth. Being able to search with Siri is nice, although limited to a select few apps. Hopefully this causes the competition to improve their natural language queries as well. All in all, a very noticeable improvement over the last generation and tons of potential.

Thinking about buying Roku, think again, Apple is the best! I bought the 32gb device, was skeptical but for now-its all I think I will need. I am very impressed with this 4th generation apple TV. Its everything the last one was and more. In time the app store will increase with more to choose from, but I can see this device having so much potential. I bought the Hori Controller from the Apple Store and love using it to play the games. Its a lot of fun. The remote is top notch, love the touch pad its very responsive. I do like using the controller to control the Apple TV as well. What can I say this device is awesome. Bluetooth--I love that I can pair wireless headphones at the same time as the wireless controller and watch or play anything on the Apple TV without disturbing my husband who is sleeping. You don't need to be connected via a 3.5mm headphone jack like Roku, its all bluetooth! This generation does everything Roku does so I am very very satisfied with my purchase, well worth the money. I am actually getting ready to buy another 32gb for my son. The only tiny thing I would like to see added is a backlit remote--but thats not a deal breaker--device is still worth the money and you should enjoy it--once the App store has more selections--it will be perfect Go Apple!!

    Near perfect streaming box

The apple TV is absolutely great for anyone invested in the apple ecosystem. If you've heard this term before, basically you use an iPhone, purchase music, TV shows, or movies on iTunes, have a Mac computer. A caveat of this, however, is apple obviously wants you to utilize what they are selling (those TV shows and movies) So you won't have the same access to everything offered by their competitors, be that Google or Amazon. Pros: very simple to use. The controller is easy and the touch panel on it is nearly as responsive on a phone or tablet. The Siri button works great and is very intuitive and quick. Streaming content loads snappy even with a lower WiFi speed. (I've streamed Netflix even in HD on 3mbps, even though the apple TV documentation seems to indicate it will downgrade HD at lower WiFi speeds.) Cons: there's no dedicated "back" button. You have to use the menu button. This is sometimes a struggle because if you wanted to select the menu to change, say, subtitles or audio tracks in a video you're watching, the Menu button will go back, not bring up a menu. The only other con is the lack of other video services like amazon or Google play. There's YouTube, I guess, but that's not what I'm looking for on a TV to begin with. Bottom line, I don't even use many apple products. I don't have an iPhone, but the apple TV is a great a great addition to my home entertainment. It's a little pricey for what you're getting, considering there are other streaming boxes that can accomplish nearly the same thing or you could always hook your computer straight to your TV. But for not having to switch hdmi cables around or move my computer, I'll take the apple TV any day for the simplicity of the product.

I have 2 Roku boxes and 2 Apple TVs. My favorite of all of these is the latest version of Apple TV. Great interface and highly useful remote. As a person in the Apple ecosystem, I love the ability to stream anything from my iPad to Apple TV. The ONLY concern I have with Apple TV is its lack of an Amazon Prime video app. However, I can get around that by streaming them from my iPad. I believe the Apple TV is the best!

This is an major upgrade from my old AppleTV. AirPlay was really the only used feature of the old AppleTV. This new box is fast, easier to use, the apps like Plex has made this better than the previous version and our Roku 3. Would recommend to anyone looking for their first top set box, or an upgrade for an old model. Especially for iOS users, lot of TV apps are universal iOS apps, so you already own them. Bonus!

I am a huge apple supporter and products like this is the reason why. The remote is really fun and easy to use compared to other touch remotes. Not much has changed from the old Apple TV other than a modern feel to everything and the apps. It is nice to be able to download only the apps you want to use. Playing games simple games is fun, but when they try to do too much, there's only so much the remote can do.

Purchased at Best Buy, our new Apple TV Fourth Gen is so much better than our First Gen Apple TV, as it should be! The interface is great, the new style remote is fantastic, HD picture quality is outstanding. I understand the new Apple TV 4K has just been released but I'm going to stick with the Fourth Gen for now. Many TV shows are not filmed in 4K anyway, at least not yet.

Being a cord cutter I have 4 of the older Apple TVs in my home. I am slowly replacing those with the new because these new Apple TVs are much faster and it has its own App Store to download a wide variety of apps. Built in Siri so you can just talk to the controller and tell it what you want to watch and it brings up options for where you can watch it (iTunes, Netflix etc.) and many more new features.

The Apple TV delivers the most polished video experience with an attractive interface. I had a confusion to choose between Apple TV vs Intel Compute Stick 2016. Both were around the same price. But I’m glad I chose Apple TV. The AirPlay experience is very smooth and makes things more convenient. It would have be great if it has 4K as well.

If you own a 3rd generation Apple TV, this upgrade will feel more refined. Apple definitely polished the look and feel of both the hardware and software for this newest generation, but functionality at this point is pretty on par with the 3rd gen units. It is obvious that Apple intends to make improvements and add new features with future software updates, simply from the addition of Siri and the App Store. As of now, both Siri and the App Store are pretty limited in what they can do. Reasons to upgrade: 1. If you are an Apple Music subscriber and want to stream music through your home entertainment system. 2. If you enjoy, or have children who enjoy casual gaming. The graphics on some of the initial release games are impressive! But keep in mind this is no competitor to Xbox One or PlayStation 4. 3. If you haven't owned an Apple TV and you intend to purchase one. This is definitely worth the extra $90 over the last generation simply for the new hardware (i.e. rechargeable remote) and the fact that Apple will continue to add great new functionality that only this model will be capable of over the next several years. Go with the 32GB model. There is absolutely no reason you will need anything larger.
