I have used both smart TVs directly as well as FireTV Sticks - these units blow them both out of the water... and the connectivity (and set up) directly through your phone?!? Remarkable. I know own four of these, one for each TV. Perfecto!

I originally did not think getting an Apple TV would be necessary as I own a smart TV. However, it has added much value to the streaming experience. This is especially true if you own other Apple devices such as the AirPods Pro which you can pair to the TV. Would recommend.

Great improvement over my old Apple TV

This new version checks both boxes, my connection is more reliable and I was able to download YouTube, Tubi, Peacock, etc. Was also priced more competitively.
