Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the Apple TV's ease of use, intuitive interface, and the functionality of its remote and Siri integration. Many appreciate the access to the App Store and the streaming capabilities, along with the improved performance and picture quality. While some wish for a simpler setup process and a lower price point, the lack of 4K support is also a frequently cited drawback.

I had the previous generation Apple TV but I rarely used it. I've been using this new one (4th gen) almost daily. It's fast, I love the app store (and it has some great apps), good picture quality, and nice remote. The only thing it doesn't do that I wish it would is allow you to download content to watch offline (such as if you want to take it with you on a trip). Maybe that will be a future update). Anyway, this was a good purchase. I like it!

    A good upgrade

I have owned an AppleTV since they've been a thing but Apple really go it right in the third generation. I have used that model (and still do) for most f my streaming, which is content I've purchased from iTunes. However, I've begun to dabble in the realm of streaming television. I'm a cord cutter at heart and not a heavy TV watcher but am excited to try out any alternative to cable and satellite, both that have gone unchallenged for too long. I took the plunge and tried a monthly plan with Playstation Vue. That plan gave me access to some channels lineup with the previous model of AppleTV, but this fourth generation opens it all up with its apps. Just like on a phone or tablet, these apps tie in to the content providers offer. Some content is free, but with a subscription to some service (from the despicable cable and satellite contractual services to a la carte services like Vue or Sling) one can log in and watch seasons worth of content and in many cases watch live television. The caveat of doing this with the AppleTV is that one has to log in to each individual app. This is the case with Playstation Vue and other fringe services. With certain providers it takes only one sign in on the device across multiple if not all apps. And as Tim Cook has said, the future of TV may actually be apps. Though clunky at times, apps give access to all this content usually in binge worthy portions. But it's not just TV. All the features I enjoyed with my 3rd gen AppleTV I still have. I still can stream my media from iTunes. I can now use this set top box as a hub for Apple's HomeKit automated smart house app. This feature was missing from previous versions. I had to use an iPad to automate the house which meant I couldn't take it away from home wifi. Anyone in the Apple ecosystem who has invested with Philips' bulbs and iHome (and others) switches now have a central hub to control it all with the mobile (Apple) devices. Then there are the apps. Yes, there's apps for different channels to stream content, but there are actual apps just like one would download to a phone or tablet. I had considered this was gimmicky and an add on but the idea seems fleshed out. There's no huge games one would get for Playstation or Xbox but there are time killer games that will be tied in to your other versions. With a GameCenter account, data will flow between devices. Unlock a new outfit on your iPhone in Minion Run, it'll be available-as well as your progress- on the AppleTV. I thought it'd be no fun on a large screen but it plays just as well taking into consideration the Siri Remote that comes with the AppleTV. The remote is responsive, touchpad nice and very simplistic, easy to use. Like on the iPhone, Siri takes some use to get used to. But once you understand how to use it (rather, how to say it) it works quite well. It being rechargeable by Lightning cable is nice, again, especially if you're in the Apple ecosystem. No doubt you have Lightning cables lying all about (one is included with this device). The caveats worth mentioning is the premium Apple price and the remote. Yes, it's expensive. But I don't regret upgrading to it. There's many more features this offers over the previous model. The remote, while nice as a remote and is quite useful for most time killer games, is not a controller for more in-depth games (nor is it ergonomic, I've got a hand cramp now typing about it). There is a controller on the market for it (heavily pushed in Apple Stores though Apple did not build it) but that's another cost if casual gaming is that important to you. This may still be a niche product but I believe it's a viable one for cord cutter Apple devotees. If you're not then other offerings out there may be better. Me, well, I use my Playstation Vue subscription more on my AppleTV than I do on the Playstation 4.

This 4th Generation of the Apple TV is fantastic for the viewer who wants to relax but still be in total control. The streamlining consumer-friendly interface is familiar with Apple Users but the Siri tech works smoothly through the remote control. Everything is fast and at your fingertips to find and swipe (iTunes, Netflix, etc). We sprung for the 64 MB just because I always think I'm gonna run out of space but keep in mind, most Digital Copy movies are on the cloud. The only thing that'll eat up your HD space is your photos and music. If 32 MB is good enough, you can grab this model for $50 cheaper. All in all, this is a fantastic buy that was bought as a Wedding Gift.

Very nice streaming device. Sits on the corner of media center. Some pros and cons though (that's with any electronic device you own): Pros: 1. If you are iphone/ipad user, you do not have to setup wifi. It reads the settings automatically from your iphone/ipad. Even reads your apple id. 2. Gets your subscriptions from apple account. And visa versa - if you setup something from apple tv, it syncs back to your iphone or ipad. 3. Apps for almost all the TV Channels; especially HBO Now. 4. Touch pad on remote to navigate between apps and while watching a video (rewind and forward is very easy). 5. Have some games on app store (I do not personally play games on this; just tried one or two times). 6. Some additional resourcefull apps like airbnb, tripadvisor (not very useful on this, but still...), flickr, etc. Cons: 1. Searching using keypad with all the characters in single row is annoying sometimes. 2. Don't like youtube app on it. Does not show search results or suggested videos while watching. But its the app not the device really. 3. Limited buttons on the remote makes it time consuming to use for the first few days/times. But once you get used to, you will like less buttons.

The Apple TV 4th Generation is a great device for cable cutters and Apple power users. However, it's not yet worth the premium price over the 3rd Generation Apple TV ($69) or other, comparable, set-top boxes. I've been using the ATV4 since it launched about a month ago. Pros Siri - The interface works remarkably well and is really useful when you are looking to watch a particular show. The only problem is it's currently limited to a few apps (iTunes, Netflix, Hulu). Gaming - The ATV4 uses an A8 chip, which makes it a pretty capable gaming machine. It's obviously not on par with the X-Box One or Playstation 4, but the games look good and run smoothly. All games work with the Siri remote, although I picked up a Bluetooth controller because I found the Siri remote too imprecise to use. Cons Lack of a "killer app" - The ATV4 has a lot of potential, but I have yet to find a "killer app" that makes owning it worthwhile. I still primarily use the ATV4 for watching movies on iTunes, Netflix, and Hulu. The much cheaper ATV3 did those tasks just as well. Price - Obviously the ATV4 has a lot more potential than the ATV3, but at this point the hefty price tag ($149/$199) is a difficult to justify. Apple is rumored to be launching a cable package next year. If it's exclusive to the ATV4, this will obviously be the device to own for cable cutters.

Apple TV never intrigued me before, but the voice recognition features is what reeled me in. It's very good at recognizing what I tell it to do. The only downside is that it can't use the voice recognition to navigate through Apple music on Apple TV (hopefully this can be fixed with an update). The lack of Amazon Prime and Vudu are also downsides if you heavily rely on those apps. And I wish it had 4K capability for future proofing purposes. Nonetheless, it's a fast machine, and it's fun to play games on it. It has Hulu, Netflix, and it plays my music library and Apple radio stations, so it works for me.

My family is in the apple Ecosystem and this is a breath of fresh air. It's fast, I love the new chargeable remote. This new Apple TV now has games which my kids love. Apple if you're seeing this review please get some cable channels going so I can cut the cord from cable forever. If you're in the apple ecosystem like my family then this is a no brainer. This is what Apple TV should've been years ago and I love it. I had my sisters buy 1 each

I already had two older Apple TVs and have thoroughly enjoyed their quality and ease of use. I purchased this new Apple TV for my 70" 4K TV in my living room. Apple did an amazing job with this new generation and they met and exceeded my expectations. I specifically like the redesigned remote, the new photo slideshow format, the incorporation of Siri, and the fact I can choose which apps I download from the App Store.

An easy-to-navigate interface and an App store with an extensive set of apps to choose from. The modern hardware makes for fast navigation, quick download of apps and in my experience so for, glitch-free streaming. Not once have I encountered any "buffering" of video though I subscribe to Comcast Blast! Pro (150mps) service. For those that want "totally" free TV apps such as PlutoTV, TubiTV, Haystack, PBS, ABC, NBC, CBC and many others provide access to a wide selection of shows and movies for free with only minimal interruption of ads. One annoyance however (and not a fault of Apple TV) is many of the apps such as those from ABC, NBC and CBS require a Cable TV subscription to see "this week's" episodes. For "cable cutters" subscribing to a couple of services such as Hulu and Netflix provide you with more than you can possibly watch for a fraction of typical cable. Some such as Hulu even provide an option to pay like $2/ month extra and NO commercials!!! I am not a sports fan so uncertain what the options are here. The interface is much like using the iPhone or iPad. An upcoming release of TvOS will supposedly bring "folders" to group related apps. The downside of the app-centric interface for some and all of the choices is that the experience is not as streamlined as the typical "cable box" but it is not much different than the typical smart phone or tablet. Airplay is a slick feature for displaying iPhone, iPad or MacOS content through the AppleTV to your big screen. This is the coolest way to view your vacation and family photos and videos!!!! If you have other Apple products in your home, this feature alone makes the Apple TV a very compelling choice. The Siri remote communicates with the Apple TV through Bluetooth, so you don't need line-of-sight for the remote to work. For those wishing to use this with a Universal Remote, since the Siri Remote communicates with the Apple TV through Bluetooth only so you can not "train" your remote to recognize it. What you "can" do however is teach the Apple TV to recognize another remote (such the remote from your old CD player that no longer works) and once Apple TV has learned the codes for basic control you can train your universal remote to recognize the codes from that old remote. It sounds like a bother, but there are only a handful of controls for the Apple TV so it is not a problem. If you had a previous generation Apple TV I have read that it will recognize those codes so if your universal remote was previously programmed for an early version of Apple TV you might be in luck and not have to change programming. There is no IR code for the "Home" button on the Siri remote. Some of the "touch" functions of the Siri remote also have no corresponding IR code. And of course, you can't "talk" to your universal. That all said, once a universal remote is set up there is really little missed from the Siri remote. If you use Siri a lot on your iPhone or iPad, you will enjoy that feature of the Siri remote. If you do not use Siri, once you have your universal remote set up there is no real need for the Siri remote. All in all, the product seems like an excellent value for the money.

Overall this is the best product on the market for wireless streaming devices. I've trialed most of them and apple TV has by far the most features and potential. The tvOs is beautiful and the device itself is relatively small. My only negative issues I'd report are: (1) apps sometime don't update to the latest shows unless you full close them; (2) no 4k support; (3) controller is too small and is lost easily and over sensitive; (4) it often fails to shut off the TV when it goes into sleep mode. I think as more updates come out it will become an even better product.

I had the last version of Apple TV, and purchased this upgrade. It is great! The remote is much better to navigate. Siri enables transfer to apps easily. Resolution and speeds are much improved. At hand on remote is ability to change volume. All functions now are much better. Especially enjoy having Apples applications. I'm considering buying another one to replace my bedroom unit too.

For years, Apple TV has been like a perpetually ignored child, eclipsed by its overachieving siblings, the iPhone and iPad. Design-wise, it hasn't changed at all since 2010, and it's been shackled with one of the most archaic Apple interfaces around, which harkens back to the iPod days. All the while Roku and even Amazon have stepped up their game considerably. Now, with the fourth-generation Apple TV, the set-top box that's been deemed merely as a "hobby" by its parent has finally come into its own. It has more powerful hardware, a significantly redesigned remote and an operating system that's worthy of an Apple product in 2015. And finally, there's a genuine app store, which turns Apple TV into a legitimate platform for entertainment and gaming in your living room. It isn't quite the "future of television" that Apple is promising, but it's getting there.

The 4th Generation Apple TV installation and set up was effortless. Picture and sound quality improvements are immediately noticeable. The new OS interface is easy to navigate through and the ability to access the App Store is a long overdue but very welcome feature. Apps are finally available on the Apple TV! There aren't a bunch right now but the potential is there. The streaming apps like Netflix, HBO, Showtime, Hulu, and Plex work great. Hoping for Nick, Amazon Prime Video, and Cartoon Network. The games I have tried seem to work very well but I did not get a game controller so I'm limited to the touch remote.

We bought the Apple TV's to replace two older Rokus. Love the interface compared to the Rokus and the speed of the device. We also love he remotes with the touch pad and the mic for Siri. And last but not least we love that you can at least AirPlay Amazon video to the tv. The only thing that keeps me from giving it 4 stars is the lack of a native Amazon video app. I know this may have more to do with Amazon than Apple, but it still needs the app.

Loved the appl tv first gen, love this new one. Cleaner fresher look, same options however now you have Siri to hold your hand. She can do all sorts of selections on command. There's full access to the App Store for games, most cost but there are freebies also, and the cool thing is that the little remote acts like a game controller, you hold it flat and use it like a game controller. I got the 64 gb but you can also get it in 32 for $50 less.

Great product. Extremely satisfied. The launch apps are really good and abundant. I love the app store for the Apple TV; That was my biggest reason for purchasing this product. I expect more awesome apps in the future as more developers continue to contribute. App store includes games, TV Network streaming, shopping, fitness, movie streaming and more. Most apps are FREE and some are premium with an average cost of $2 - $4 per app. The Airplay feature is improved and more reliable than earlier generations. I also like how my iTunes and digital downloads purchases are available for streaming. Siri works great if your searching for a movie, actor/actress, or movie genre; You will not only get results for the iTunes store, but Siri will display results for all movie apps such as Netflix, HBO Go, Showtime, etc. (Example: "Siri, show me the top 10 movies with Robin Williams over the last 10 years." - Siri's results will include movies with Robin Williams that are 10 years or newer and which movie apps the Robin Williams movie is featured in.)

After a long awaited, 3.5 year, arrival, Apple finally delivered its new device which comes in 2 flavors 32 ($149) and 64GB ($199). From a form factor perspective, it looks similar as the older model from the top, however, from the side, you'll find that it's nearly a half inch taller. While it it offers up more functionality than it's predecessor, other devices have caught up and are less costly. That's no surprise given the consumer's willingness to pay a premium for the Apple experience. That said, this model is zippy and allows the user to find content beyond Apple's walls. The interface remains relatively unchanged making navigation familiar with the new remote which integrates touchpad functionality. The voice search seems to work as well as the search feature on Amazon Fire TV. You'll see a microphone to activate the voice feature. What's absent is that the response to your queries aren't that of Siri but instead appear as text on the screen. A cool feature is that while watching a movie and if you've either not understood or missed some diaglog, you can ask what the actor said and Apple TV will rewind 15 seconds. The true value and experience will likely be be forthcoming as new apps come on line. The bad news is the price. At the 2 previously noted price points, its considerably more expensive than others in this space.
