I always felt a cord is a cord, BUT I have experienced that an Apple Brand cord really is more efficient than a no-name brand, absolutely. My old cord was charging my device rapidly when compared to this new cord. When feasible, I will purchase Apple Brand connectors and chargers.

If you want to plug in your iPod on USB, this is the cable for you. It'll plug it in like nobody's business.
