Why do you have to still pay fees is you buy plan

To me thats stupid because any other brand you buy a protection plan everything is covered free under your protection plan. I mean thats the point. But with apple care you pay for the protection plan to basically get what discounted repairs? I dont know. I purchased because i always buy protection for my electronics especially ones my kid will use.

This purchase was to cover a new iPad for my wife after her old iPad died. The old iPad had AppleCare and Apple is replacing it under the plan. I will continue to use the replacement (still under AppleCare warranty) when after it arrived. We no longer have to share. Thank you Apple
