Arrival has great actors, but the story itself and the way it is presented is different from anything we had ever seen. It met our movie standard in that we have been thinking about it ever since we saw it. We want to see it again very soon. We thought we might, so we're glad we bought it! We get our new releases from Best Buy, because their prices are great and we don't have to pay shipping or join a shipping program.

I bought this movie, more out of curiosity?.. Because it was advertised as having the most unusual ending of any movie! And while I can't say that was the case.. It was a really intriguing movie! I found myself totally enthralled!... It is the kind of movie that you have to go back and watch again. Sooner rather than later! A very well done movie!

My family loved Arrival! Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner do a fabulous job with this story. It gives us hope that when alien contact does happen, it is not a worst case scenario! Not all alien movies need to be like Independence Day, War of the Worlds, or countless other movies. It is very refreshing to see a movie based on working together to understand each other, rather than shoot first, ask questions later.

This is a true scientific movie. It makes you think and that is always a good thing. Some ppl want everything spelled out for them so they don't have to use their minds. Yes it is at times slow but my attention span is able to still follow the whole movie. More movies need to be made that make ppl think. Watch this movie and you will understand.

If you knew your life's outcome, would you change it? It all depends on if you are willing to discard the things you most love to avoid having them taken away way to soon. What do you do? experience it knowing it will be short and painful or don't experience it at all including the love and happiness that came with it? Very powerful

Aliens park on earth and earth decides to talk with them to see what they want. Good sci-fi flick that will get you confused upon first viewing. Second watch is practically required. Great roles for Amy Adams and crew. It is a bit of a slow burn, not a lot of action. I just think the "beings" themselves could have looked a little different.

I will go ahead and say it, Denis Villeneuve is brilliant and is this generations Ridley Scott. He may even be better than Ridley Scott. Time will only tell but his output is with the utmost quality and creativity. Experiencing Arrival shouldn't be explained it should be seen and then discussed. His Blade Runner 2049 which is beyond excellent is in good company with Arrival. Highly recommended!

This movie encourages one to think of the influences on thought processes and emotional factors guiding our decisions. The brain and heart don't always agree. It's a different kind of science fiction movie. I am an avid science fiction fan, but found this enjoyable in a different way from my normal science fiction pleasure.

Arrival is one of my core sci-fi recommendations and a must see for anyone that has not seen it. The communication barriers, misunderstandings, and solutions are a great representation of not only fictional alien encounters, but of mankind as well.

The 4k presentation is a definite upgrade from the regular bluray version. This a very cerebral film and the journey throughout is well worth the effort. Amy Adams gives an excellent performance. For lovers of great alien visitation and how humanity responds, I'd recommend this film.

I loved this movie. It's one that makes you think while entertaining you as well. Amy Adams is perfectly cast in this movie which could be what first contact would be like. I hate to criticize directors' on choices in color palate and overall look and feel of their story. But the look of this movie is drab, washed out, with terrible black-level and shadow detail. I thought my TV was having issues or that the transfer of this movie to Blu-Ray was bad. However, in reading reviews from people who had seen it both in the theater and on Blu-Ray said that the Blu-Ray's look was accurate to what they had seen on the big screen. So in effect, this was the director's choice. Drab washed out color to portray a certain feeling is one thing. But lack of shadow detail just makes the movie look stupid. So, I like the movie but due to the problems mentioned above I would say rent it because it would be hard to watch multiple viewings of it.

Deep dark blacks combined with the Brite white contrasts and the in between scenes that bring the smokey alien atmosphere to being as lifelike you'd think you were at a hookah lounge.Seeing as how this movie lacks in the department of packing action, the story is able to pack up the difference in detail to present a dark and ominous suspense with a twist of a brighter hope to pop this plot.

My friends and I viewed this during our recent "Movie Night" (while our wives were having their book club) and we thoroughly enjoyed it, Excellent, believable story line with some fine acting by Amy Adams and a couple of very nicely done plot twists.

Arrival is another terrific film from Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Sicario). On the surface, it's a science fiction film of the highest caliber dealing with a very realistic, grounded version of a first contact scenario. Underneath, it's a film dealing with grief, regret, and the purpose of life itself. Well written, acted, and shot, it's easy to see why this film secured a Best Picture nomination.

If you're looking for another mindless action flick, you come to the wrong place which is a little odd considering that the directed also created Sicario. This type of movie requires the viewer to have some level of intelligence to understand the concept of the film. It's worth a watch, but I would consider renting it at first.

I watched this movie before and buying it only because I have to watch it again. The price is right and even includes a digital copy that I can give away. This is the kind of movie that you want to watch a second time to understand the story. However, I am not sure if I want to watch it the 3rd time.

One of the best movies of the year. This film is about a linguist who is brought in to help decipher an alien language after alien ships arrive on Earth. The story plays out in a way that will keep you wondering and leave you wanting to talk about it. I will leave it brief because of spoiling anything. Great acting, great effects and a great story. Pick up easily one of the best movies of 2016!

If you've seen this movie already, you know you need to watch it more to fully understand and appreciate it. As far as the Blu-ray itself goes, it features really beautiful, faithful picture quality and the audio that is so crucial to the experience sounds pretty phenomenal in the included DTS-HD 7.1 mix. Add five fascinating special features and this is definitely a disc worth picking up.

It is a slow starting movie . If you stick with it its a good movie.

I had not read any reviews going into watching this movie, so really did not know what to expect. What I got was an amazing movie about people and their interactions with one another under immense stress, that just happened to have some aliens in it. There are no big battles, dog fights in alien spacecraft, or laser guns going "pew pew pew". What there is is just great acting and awesome writing.
